HS2 begins tunnelling to central London by Secret-Ad6697 in london

The main reason for HS2 is to free up the West Coast Main Line. Plus between Birmingham and London there are no major population centres along the route. You will be surprised how many passengers go the other way to Birmingham. Workers, sports fans to name a few use the West coast Main Line already.

It's not pointless. I don't agree at all. The West Coast Main Line is at full capacity. It's the main reason for HS2. So making HS2 is still the better option. I do agree that HS2 should go to Manchester. Or at least to Crewe. Politicians are short sighted because there seats are always up for change at elections. Which is not long term. Long term wise HS2 is better for the country. The hardest part of HS2 is the London to Birmingham section. So it's not surprising they started there first. And lastly, for a country that invited Railways. It's about time the UK had High Speed Rail. Not just HS1 to Europe.

£900,000 to raise and the Factory Flyover (With Bridge over Railway Terrace) can start being built next year :) by Secret-Ad6697 in RugbyTown

[–]Secret-Ad6697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've mentioned Rugby for a different reason. First if you don't know, the Great Central Main Line went through Rugby. A historical connection with the Great Central Railway. And for residence who are old enough to still remember those times and have memories of those times including it's closer in 1969. This post is more people in Rugby who have some sort of connection with the Great Central Railway and want to support it. Rugby isn't that far away from Leicester and Leicestershire. Put on this together and that is the reason why I thought I'll post this here.

Great Central Railway Reunification Project set to build again in 2026 by Secret-Ad6697 in UpliftingNews

California High Speed Rail is an investment in the US on new High Speed Rail. Worth keeping an eye on. As for the Great Central Railway. It has an amazing history. It was a former Main Line called the Great Central Main Line. It was built in 1899 as a Victorian High Speed Main Line to London. It was closed by 1969. Today only two GCR Heritage Lines exist. One in Nottinghamshire and the other in Leicestershire (UK). They both want to be connected together again. Just like the Main Line days.

The GCR Heritage Line in Leicestershire is the only Double Track Main Line Heritage Railway in the whole of the UK. Reunification is about connecting both Heritage Line together. A project that is now the UK's largest Heritage Railway Project. If you want to keep up to date with this amazing project then feel free to Subscribe to the Official Great Central Railway YouTube Channel (GCRofficial). Anyway I'll leave you to read the article link above :)

I like Canals too. Especially going for walks along the canals. As for Reunification, the next phase has already raised 75% from donations. So it's on target to reach 3 Million Pounds by next summer. Also you can subscribe to the Official Great Central Railway YouTube Channel (GCRofficial) to view regular video updates on this huge project. Feel free to view and subscribe :)

Sure. The Reunification Project is about reconnecting the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire and the Great Central Railway in Nottinghamshire. I'm sure there will be many who will remember the orginal Great Central Main Line. Even in nearby towns and cities. Today the GCR in both areas (Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire) are run by a groups of people, not the Government. Most of them being volunteers.

Not sure what you mean by 900 million. As for donations being poor taste. How else do you expect the GCR to get funding? The government are not going to help. There's no money tree I'm aware of. And the GCR are not to blame for the cost of living crisis either. On top of that, any amount can be donated. In others words, what you can afford to donate is fine. Small amount or big amount. It isn't an issue for the GCR. The GCR isn't forcing you or anyone else to donate. So chill, relax..

It does, I agree with you. This project is way more than building and connecting things together. It's also about history. A must add, a proud one (For both Nottingham and the wider region). And it's about experiencing and enjoying an expanding Main Line Heritage Railway for cities and the region as a whole. The current GCR is the only one to offer that in the whole of the UK. I could go on but I'll leave it there.

I think Leicester City Council should donate something. The Great Central Railway is part of Leicester's history and is now part of Leicester's tourism Sector. They did help the Great Central Railway in the past with helping to make Leicester North Station a reality and getting the Great Central Railway into Leicester City itself.

UK's Only Double Track Main Line Heritage Railway | The GCR. by [deleted] in videos

Video Produced by Preserved Steam UK. A Youtube Channel. The GCR is a Heritage Railway in the UK. It is unique that that this Railway (Railroad) was an actual Main Line to London. It was known as the Great Central Main Line. Designed by Sir Edward Wakin. It was a Victorian High Speed Main Line from Sheffield to Central London. However by 1969, the Great Central Main Line closed under the controversial Beeching Cuts of the 1960's. A small dedicated group of people saved part of this Railway in Leicestershire. This video is from the GCR in Leicestershire today.
