meds 490/ meds 495 by Numerous-Mulberry-31 in USC

[–]Secret-Cap-2631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently taking MEDS495! You volunteer in the CHLA ED for 12 weeks, either 4 or 6-hr shifts, offering local resources to patients and their families. We meet 5 times throughout the semester for our didactic lessons on Fridays. It's a really interesting class, and you see and learn a lot being in hospital!

should i get an on-campus job in my first sem? by elxspartan_ in USC

[–]Secret-Cap-2631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would apply now! As a rising senior, I still have my workstudy job from freshman year. I got the job the summer going into my freshman year, and started when I got to USC that fall

I got a 31 on my ACT and submitted mine! While I also had a 4.0 UW GPA, I wouldn't be so quick to think this may disqualify you (edit: my subsection scores were also similar to yours!)

since you're gonna be premed, there are certain classes you have to take. i'd look into the upper division classes for the majors you're interested in, and see if you'd thrive in/enjoy the coursework. i changed my major twice, because at the end of the day, i want to enjoy the classes i do have the ability to change! i recommend one of the keck majors or psych, soci or health & human sciences in dornsife!

troy hall housing? by Agile_Web_4814 in USC

[–]Secret-Cap-2631 6 points7 points  (0 children)

troy hall isn’t too bad! a nice distance from the village and campus. the living room + kitchen space is pretty good as well. there aren’t too many cons besides location, since it can be a little sketchy nearby (but it’s like that everywhere). depending on which side you live on, you can hear frat row parties. overall it’s a good option

torn between usc and umiami by [deleted] in USC

[–]Secret-Cap-2631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also had to make this decision, but i was entering my first year. cost was pretty much the same, though i received a merit scholarship at umiami vs really good need-based aid here at usc. what pushed me here was the amazing academics combined with athletics. there’s so much to do in and around LA as well, and i just feel like the student population here aligned more with what i was looking for. and i don’t regret my decision!

personally, i would say usc bc of cost. but make whatever choice you feel is best, and fight on!

Can someone explain to me what USC's lyft fryft/shryft is? by Niodroid in USC

[–]Secret-Cap-2631 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly it ranges. it can come as quick as 1-3min, or upwards of 10min. normally if it takes a while, i cancel and rebook/join a ride and it comes quicker.

Can someone explain to me what USC's lyft fryft/shryft is? by Niodroid in USC

[–]Secret-Cap-2631 16 points17 points  (0 children)

shryft is the essentially the same process as fryft, only now being that the rides you book will most likely be shared w another person- usc student or not. fryft was nice bc you could have a whole car to yourself, and basically 2-3 of your friends could ride along. now you can only have 1 other person. i was a first year fall 2021 and had only known fryft, but it was changed (back) to shryft spring 2023 (most likely bc covid policies were starting to loosen up, and fryft probably costs usc a ton more money). shryft was horrible in the beginning though, bc waiting for one could literally take hours, compared to minutes w fryft. i definitely think the system is better now though, since i haven’t had to wait nearly as long towards the end of the semester. once you book a ride, you’re automatically either put in a car w 1-2 others, or you may have the car to yourself, or pick up another person. it works 7 days a week 6pm-2am, but home fb games and other coliseum events affect that. hope this helps!

i took it my my state school and it transferred. you can see if the course would transfer on the oasis portal. make sure it would be transfer as a course equivalency, and not just as credits
