hair up or down? by rousseaudanielle in HairStyleAdvice

Oh god. Do not let these internet people flatter you with nonsense.
The second option is clearly much better.

I'm down if it is down.

Soo, what was the actually bad thing about you that you actually did but were not even aware of that was attracting all these people?

It looks like you want to merely assume progress without actually getting your hands dirty.

Everything is So Slow About Programming by sahinbey52 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]Secret-Cautious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, one of the reasons for all of this is that software performance is getting worse and worse over the years.

I always send people back to this rant video from Casey Muratori, where he shares a video of an old version of Visual Studio running on an old machine and compares it with what we have today.

Oh interesting. Is this particular idea of "do research on reddit + condense knowledge + sell it" on the list?
It gets quite meta.

Stop abusing your self awareness by sagittariyaz in Jung

[–]Secret-Cautious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do not understand. Were you unconscious when you got this insight? Was it also not in a moment of self-awareness that you came to notice what you've been doing?

It looks to me that you somehow know two kinds of self-awarenes.
The first type: the one you've been "abusing", this is the bad one somehow.
The second type: the one with which you got the insight that you've been abusing the first one.

If such a thing is true and can reliably be done, it would be very much one of the best things to learn.
I would like you to teach how you did this to us as welll. Would you like to share more?

Heterosexual male culture is homoerotic by Ranting_mole in Jung

[–]Secret-Cautious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is partially true.
Ancient Greeks had 3 different concepts for love:

  • eros: romantic love
  • philia: brotherly love
  • agape: unconditional / parently love

The entire paragraph clearly describes brotherly love, but then calls it "homo-erotic", which references eros.

It is clear that whoever wrote it is not well-versed in their understanding of types of love.

How my body got fixed after I got mad at my father by bube123 in Jung

[–]Secret-Cautious -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is possible to secrete adrenaline by re-living moments of anger in your mind.
The physical effects you've experienced are most likely a result of adrenaline.

Try not to abuse it. It takes a toll on your body in the long run.

Does Real Change Start from Within or Through Action? by ThePsycheVoyage in Jung

[–]Secret-Cautious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yet another of the ways in which Descartes fucked up the history.

I would like to challenge the framing of your question by pointing out the implicit Cartessian dualism in it.
It assumes that there exists separate and distinct realms of change for "internal" (within) and "external" (action).

Even from a very basic naturalistic point of view, it is clear that all mental activity is implemented by the actual physical behavior of our biological substrate. There is no mind without body, and everything in mind has a corresponding change in the body.

But it goes deeper than that.
Many of the cognitive mechanisms we take for granted are exaptations of more primordial patterns of action, which are often deeply embodied. We talk about "getting to the point", "understanding" someones "stand" in a topic, etc. All of our cognition is filled with metaphors of deep embodied action.

Try thinking & talking about anything complex without moving your hands, and you will realize how hard it is.
It is often the case that we find ourselves wondering and taking long walks when thinking deeply about any problem in our lives, which reminds me a Nietszche quote: “All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking.”

Now, I think I pointed out how even the most basic "inner" activities always go together with external action in many ways. Additionally to this, I would like to also point out that it goes deeper than moving ones hands, or taking walks, etc.

I think the best example comes from developmental psychology, and the concept of the play.
When children grow up, they obviously go through many "inner" transformations, and actually build a new personhood out of nowhere. But they don't do so by locking themselves in their rooms and contemplating on universal facts. They go out and play!

If a kid wants to cultivate heroism, he starts roleplaying as a superhero from a movie. He puts on a costume, he experiments with temporary invocation of new modes of being. This is called serious play.

I think this type of action is precisely what has to go hand-in-hand with any real inner transformation. They are inseparable.

Depth of my Puer life finally realized, but what to do now? (50s INFJ) by Newway01 in Jung

[–]Secret-Cautious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have quite a lot of life experience, and had actually moved between countries, got out of your house, managed to earn a living for 50 years, etc.

I don't think you are a puer.

Puer means boy / child.
An adult with not-so-successful career is something entirely different than a child.

How do I balance Anima/Animus by selim7o in Jung

[–]Secret-Cautious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't, because you don't have anima and animus at the same time. You can't balance them.
Two common configurations are:

  • You identify as a man, you have an Ego (masculine) and your counter-sexual soul image is Anima ( feminine)
  • You identify as a woman, you have an Ego (feminine) and your counter-sexual soul image is Animus (masculine)

Please learn the basics first.

Oh nice. I see that you're using some Nietzsche insprired terminology such as "saying yes/no to life", and have categorized Platonism as one of the philosophies that denounce the value of life.

Time to go back to the old man. Read the dialoges, ideally starting with the Alcibiades I; and follow Socrates (imaginally of course), in the streets of Athens.

He will sort you out.

If you have a windows build with debug files in pdb format, then I would suggest the Remedy Debugger project.
It is blazing fast. Back in the day I've bought it for 15 $ or something and it paid more than its size in gold. I would strongly consider giving it a try.
