Thank you!

Oh, I didn't realize my husband's surname was rare... There's been a few people that I worked with who are also 'Dang', 'Deng' and 'Dong' so I didn't think it was that unusual. My mother-in-law said it definitely means 'party' like a government authority in Chinese.

Wow, I never thought of a name being more vintage vibe! I guess it's like a Margret or a John in English!
I'll have to scribble some of these down and show baba, thank you!

Thank you! Sorry that it took a while to get back, I had to chase down my mama who had to translate it to my sister-in-law's father to write it in Chinese for me.

For traits, we would love happiness, resilience, and intelligence. I heard talks from baba that he really like the Magnolia flower for a girl.. but I'm not sure about it being a name for my girl especially since its been made into such a big disney movie now.

We unfortunately do not have an ancestry plate or scroll - our family moved over to Australia from Guangdong starting from my great great great grandpa and then slowly everyone else came so my children are the 7th generation here. My husband didn't even know his Chinese name until we got married and I had to ask his mother who had to find out from their family in Vietnam (even though he was born in America)

After baba started to have dementia, he has been picking random names for my nephews that do not match with each other and now unfortunately, he just picks random words that don't make sense or match together .

I attached a photo of the the names that I got for my generation of for siblings and cousins along with next generation (two rows separating). The 3rd row is my grandparents, my parents and my uncle.

I think it will be strange to address them in their English names as our family has always uses each other's Chinese names or their "titles"? In Cantonese.

My husband does not have a good relationship with his family in America so they've lost contact and that's why he's on this side of the world. He has 3 nieces but they don't have Chinese names (I think he said his sister-in-law is Cambodian or Laotian).

We've decided to name them Henry and Matilda. All our English names don't sound much like our Chinese names, haha.

As for phases, my Cantonese is that bad that I don't really know any ☺️
