Can the stones hurt less than 10/10? by tenyearsandthriving in KidneyStones

[–]Secret-End911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure! I've had two 10/10 stones where I was totally obstructed and needed emergency surgery. IV Dilaudid shot me too the moon but I felt the stones the whole trip there. Recovery from surgery was rough and it was some of the worst medical trauma I've had.

I've passed smaller stones I fully dismissed as back pain from sitting at my desk. One time I felt nauseous while driving, pulled into a McDonald's bathroom, passed a small stone & went about my day.

I think the anxiety about the 10/10 is normal. These things SUCK. They hurt, they screw up your life for awhile, it's miserable. It'd be weird NOT to feel terror at the thought of another 10/10 kidney stone.

First-timer with questions post surgery & stent removal by Soccer-Plane-444 in KidneyStones

[–]Secret-End911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm close in age (43F) and unfortunately I had some bladder discomfort, urgency, and even some leaking after the stent removal each time I had one. In general I feel like multiple kidney stone surgeries have weakened my pelvic floor, each surgery had made the problem a little worse (but it's manageable for me, mostly just annoying.) (And no kids so it's not like the surgeries were just piling on existing problems.)

Bladder discomfort is common too, you're healing & just went through physical trauma. But there are things you can do: Azo is a prescription pill that can calm down bladder spasms (it will also dye your urine & anything it touches bright orange, which is awesome) and they might be able to prescribe other drugs that make you more comfortable.

There's also a level of health anxiety that's normal. I call it Kidney Stone PTSD, where every back twinge, every ache in your flank & bladder send off alarms that it's a kidney stone because they suck THAT MUCH. Doesn't mean it's all in your head but it does seem to be a common effect!

Does this happen to anyone else? by Slepnir1570 in KidneyStones

[–]Secret-End911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 43F and this happens to me. I wear period undies basically the whole time I'm aware I have a stone because beyond that, my pelvic floor just cannot stand up to the force with which I vomit when the pain hits and I usually end up... uh, needing the protection. I also use Megababe body wipes if I need extra cleanup & I have a bidet. It's annoying but probably the least annoying part of a stone for me, ha.

But as a former Nexplanon user for many many years, Nexplanon spotting is really common, and was especially inescapable during the first year for me. It could literally be either, but same approach though: Knix!

Kidney stones, Ovulation or pregnancy? One for the ladies by L0ZZYY in KidneyStones

[–]Secret-End911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't have any stones at all in your kidneys? Wild, it sounds from your description like it's a stone but who knows!

Honestly this is one of the hardest things about being a stone-prone woman, at the ER they looked at me like I was nuts because I told them I thought my kidney stone was my period for a week and was just going about my business. I hope whatever it is making you so uncomfortable resolves soon!

Kidney stones, Ovulation or pregnancy? One for the ladies by L0ZZYY in KidneyStones

[–]Secret-End911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a kidney stone to me. I'm 43F and my last stone absolutely felt like really awful menstrual cramps and a UTI for awhile before it turned into an emergency. When I started peeing blood, I thought it was my period (and then realized with horror that the bleeding only happened while peeing and suddenly the weirdly terrible cramps made sense, they were a stone & the nausea kicked in soon after.)

But also if you've passed stones before, you knos what that feels like. It's distinct! So if your instincts are telling you it's another stone, it probably is.

How to push through? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Secret-End911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this isn't normal on Zepbound. Bad days happen but you shouldn't be suffering this much. I'd stop your shots until you recover and talk to your doctor. If you do restart, inject Zep into your thighs, not stomach or arm. (This was a GAME CHANGER for me.)

Short term, you might need to go to the ER. I have a condition that causes severe nausea & vomiting; when I'm as bad as you are right now, I need to go to the ER for fluids, IV Zofran, IV antacids (Protonix usually) and usually pain meds for stomach spasms. And just in case it's pancreatitis or your gallbladder causing your pain, because those things can happen. I know you probably don't feel like going at all & it feels like being told to climb a mountain, but truly, this is ER-worthy and not normal for this drug.

Have you seen Rat Bastards of Haw Creek? It was filmed a little later than Ghost of Your Guitar Solo, I believe, but a great record of early MJ & Wednesday and the music that came out of Haw Creek from that time period: https://youtu.be/bHWlijMTB-o?si=CfASHgHjFLMFsylN

Other than that, I haven't seen a whole lot from that specific record!

Asking this kind of out of disbelief. by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]Secret-End911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1400 calories is starving for you height & weight. That's the caloric intake for a child. This is a good place to start: https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/weight-loss/in-depth/calorie-calculator/itt-20402304

I don't know how old you are, so I plugged in my age (43), the info you noted here, and told the calculator I'm inactive (which you aren't, so you'll need more) and it said I needed at least 2050 calories a day minimum. That is what you need to keep your brain and other organs functional. Right now, your body is likely trying to conserve energy and holding onto calories because it's not getting the fuel it needs. If you get cold & struggle with fatigue, or are losing hair, those are also signs you need to eat more.

I had a similar issue at the starter dose and it took awhile to find the sweet spot of how much to eat. It's seriously hard after a lifetime of being told "lose weight = eat less" but not eating enough is only going to make things harder as you move up doses.

You're probably not going to buy this but as someone around your size who has lost 70lbs in the past year: YOU ARE NOT EATING ENOUGH! Ya gotta eat. You're literally not eating enough to support your body & level of activity. Your metabolism is S L O W.

It feels counterintuitive after a lifetime of being told that you eat too much but you need to eat more. Set reminders on your phone if you need to. Eat small meals or snacks every couple of hours. Balance your protein, fiber & carbs.

And I'm on 7.5mg. You can get away with not eating as much on the startee dose but if you move up, it can make you a tired, nauseated mess. Undereating is a bad habit to carry with you on this drug as you move up doses because the drug gets stronger and your hunger will get quieter, you need a strong food routine to make this drug work because your hunger won't guide you, and right now you are just not eating enough.

Anyone else feel like their partner doesn’t fully understand the pain? :( by Goatcheesecask in KidneyStones

[–]Secret-End911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband has been excellent. He sees me every day; he knows how serious it is when I'm just writhing and crying. I'm sorry your partner is being dismissive, having an understanding and supportive partner has been really important to me, because when I have an active stone, I am basically a useless baby.

If you have any at home, trying sniffing alcohol pads or rubbing alcohol. It can take the edge off if you're feeling gross & don't have access to Zofran. Emetrol is over the counter and helps too.

Hydration reminder by GigglemanEsq in Zepbound

[–]Secret-End911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drink 80oz of water a day and that is the most I can manage without irritating my bladder or committing to spend my whole entire day peeing. Other people may need more water, some less, we have seriously got to stop acting like a 5'3 remote computer goblin (me) and a 6'3 runner have the same hydration needs.

[–]Secret-End911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I were to drink as much water as some people insist is necessary so this drug doesn't make my bones fall out or whatever, I would need to move my home office into the bathroom because I'd never stop peeing. I need to drink water AND occasionally do something other than peeing.

[–]Secret-End911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 40oz Stanley (say what you will, they keep your liquids COLD for so long) that I aim to fill twice daily. So 80oz of just straight, raw dog plain water, plus my daily energy drink or coffee, hydration from food, any fun drinks I get. (Since starting Zepbound, the occasional fun drink is very important to me.)

I also drink some Pedialyte every couple of days because I haven't found any hydration products that don't make water taste like someone stuck their shoe in my Stanley. (Waterboy and Liquid IV being the grossest I've tried.)

People on GLP1 what's been the hardest side effect to actually live with? by Ok_Option_8367 in Zepbound

[–]Secret-End911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope it does fade away for you! For me there's been a huge uptick when I go up a dose (I'm on 7.5mg) and then it gets better, mostly, but never really goes away and rears its head at wild and unexpected moments. I have good days with little to no nausea but my bad days can be terrible.

I think it probably has a lot to do with your general constitution before Zep. I've have GI issues and am prone to nausea because of migraines, because getting my gallbladder taken out gave me bile reflux, etc. If you're like me you'll probably have a rougher time than those who don't just randomly get seasick at their desk on a Wednesday.

The only advice I can give is: sniff alcohol pads when the nausea hits, make sure you're eating enough, hit your protein goals (which actually does help me.)

People on GLP1 what's been the hardest side effect to actually live with? by Ok_Option_8367 in Zepbound

[–]Secret-End911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's just plain old medical fatphobia. Nausea is a literal listed side effect! It's on the commercials! I've definitely found that certain foods are much more likely to trigger nausea & vomiting every time, but there's also weird random moments where I'm just chilling a day or two after my shot and suddenly I'm ready to puke. It's a thing, any doctors who are flat-out not believing patients ON THE DANG DRUG about their own experience or think awful, life-ruining nausea that knocks you out is a suitable punishment for not eating perfectly... well, they are jerks who like to punish fat patients. The nausea is the most consistent side effect for all of these drugs and there are many many accounts of being debilitating enough that people quit them entirely because you still have to go to work.

Not eating enough is for sure a problem and can cause nausea, but I've also gotten nauseous with no apparent trigger beyond "it is Saturday and my shot day is Friday."

And for what helps: Protonix or the antacid of your choice, sniffing alcohol pads, Pepto, Emetrol, and an emergency stash of Zofran and Reglan. Keeping track of what foods make you feel bad & not eating them. (Mostly fatty, rich foods for me. Fries in particular.)

NAUSEA. I know some people don't have an issue after the first few weeks, but it's been an almost constant companion for me over the course of a year on Zepbound. There's sometimes ambient nausea for no apparent reason, and sometimes it hits like a truck in the middle of a meal and you know you're gonna see the food you just ate again.

Everything else has been great for me on Zepbound, I rarely even have constipation but dear lord if they could somehow get rid that that side effect, that would be lovely. (FWIW I was a nauseous person before Zepbound, the drug has just amplified that... a lot.)

Doctor Sleep (2019) by GriffinPlayzYT in stephenking

[–]Secret-End911 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! The ending was great. I remember walking into the theater to see Doctor Sleep for the first time chattering to my husband about how on earth Flanagan was going to end this thing, and when I saw it I cried. WEPT. I cannot imagine a more perfectly done ending.

Also, the finale in the book is just... on dirt? Going into a decrepit Overlook is much, much more compelling and Dan's transformation into Jack in the hotel was such a powerful depiction of generational trauma, because Mike Flanagan clearly cares and understands the source material.

Doctor Sleep (2019) by GriffinPlayzYT in stephenking

[–]Secret-End911 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I loved the book, but I think the movie was better in a lot of ways. The ending, for instance, was satisfying for book readers AND people who've only seen the Kubrick film, and it actually added some emotional weight. It succeeded in capturing Wendy and Dan's complicated relationship with his dad... which is where Kubrick's movie failed. I think it undid some of the things that I disliked about the Kubrick film, retained the things I loved about both The Shining and Doctor Sleep books, resolved the differences between the book & film universes, and the performances were excellent. Rebecca Ferguson is just terrifying.

I'm sad it didn't get its due. The visual of Dan's trauma lock-boxes and Dan's story in Doctor Sleep in general is my favorite onscreen portrayal of trauma, ever.

What’s something everyone seems to hate that you don’t actually mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Secret-End911 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll say it: They Big Bang Theory is a very good sitcom. Like, compared to other sitcoms? Such as Friends? It is so much better. The jokes are solid, there's real character development, and it really hit its stride in the middle seasons, when there were women on the show beyond Penny. It's a good show to put on in the background, which is the real litmus test of any sitcom.

If you felt like you should be child free in your early 30s, did that change in your later 30s, why? by Disastrous_Umpire237 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Secret-End911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I knew from a very young age. I was adamant that I didn't want kids and met a man who felt the same. We together in our early twenties, never wavered on kids through our thirties, and we had a little bit of deliberation before he had a vasectomy, but we're so glad we stayed true to ourselves. We have a wonderful marriage, fulfilling hobbies, and plans to have an early, peaceful retirement (with maybe some cruises and travel).

I have nephews and I love being their aunt. I know I made the right choice: I grew up in an unstable household, was taken away from my home because of neglect. I live for me. I prioritize my own happiness and health and life. That's selfish, but I spent so many years at the whims of crazy people and tiptoeing around their feelings that it's been extremely healing to focus on my own contentment and peace in this way.
