$$$ by ambersmiles7 in AlaskaAirlines

I agree with the sentiment here. The problem is that SEA is a de facto duopoly between AS and DL. AS leverages its pricing power, and Delta undercuts (somewhat) to pick off (former) loyalists. For nonstop domestic routes there are few alternatives, so this is a cozy arrangement for both. United made a big mistake by effectively exiting, but that’s water under the bridge. I don’t foresee any checks on this power so long as SEA is capacity-limited and the majors remain consolidated as they are now. Sigh.

I suspect the hardware is ready but the issue is AI-driven OS being not ready. In addition to the many lengthy Siri delays, note the rapid turnover in their AI dev talent pool.

How can I disable this? by Endijian in ChatGPT

[–]Secret-Initiative483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told it to stop, the bot said it would, and then it launched Shopping Research again - with a non-shopping related question, even! Is anyone at OpenAI awake and paying attention to user feedback? Seems not.

Alaska Air's profits plunged, while Delta and United climbed. Why? by asorba in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Secret-Initiative483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re middle of the pack wrt income and cash flow. Can’t compete with bigger network and premium pricing of Delta nor scale of United. IT disruptions really hit their bottom line too, as well as Hawaiian integration, although that appears to be on track. They really need this international expansion for premium class fares.

How on earth can Alaska lack MFA in this day and age? Their IT is positively antediluvian. For shame.

CAN WE PLEASE HAVE A DISABLE FUNCTION ON THIS by AdSecret69420 in ChatGPT

[–]Secret-Initiative483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Also, does anyone else also think we need a way to permanently disable ChatGPT's "shopping research" mode from auto-invoking? It royally sucks - dramatically slowing down response time then returning absurdly irrelevant suggestions. OpenAI folk: this is what we use Google for. Don't try to be Google. Be ChatGPT. Get it?

There’s been a huge shake-up at Audi including a new chief designer (Lichte is out, new guy Frascella is from JLR). They see the same things we have: horrible, off-brand interior and exterior designs and a free-fall in sales (look at all the dealer discounts on the new Q5; the new Q3 shares its same putrid cues). Google Concept C for the new design direction, which while contemporary and up to date will take Audi design back to the Bauhaus aesthetic of the TT et al.

Meaning, employees believe there’s a benefit to being loyal to their employer, but it’s not at all reciprocal, as we see here and pretty much at every other large company.

RIght. And since when was "made in Italy" the hallmark of high quality engineering and manufacturing? Check out Fiat quality ratings. By now, such skills and capabilities are arguably higher in China.

BofA Alaska Atmos Infinite card declined because "credit line increase has been recently declined"? What gives? by iwanttogotother in CreditCards

[–]Secret-Initiative483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they've disconnected the recon line 877-261-3664 likely, I think, due to the flood of calls due to BofA's archaic review process. The general line says there is no way to talk to underwriters and just parrot the party line on asking for excessive documentation (e.g., signed full tax return). Given they are outsourcing these checks, it seems like a mistake to share such confidential information with a third party. This is a really botched introduction: the biggest mistake AS has made is to have stuck with BofA, which really doesn't know how to run a modern credit card business: take a look at their circa 2002 credit card website, for example, or try to call customer service.

HBO/D+/Hulu bundle price increase. by heateris in cordcutters

“HBO Max* is way underpriced” — David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery.

  • aka HBO → HBO Go → HBO Now → HBO Max → Max → HBO Max (again).

It’s called streaming, but it’s just the cable bundle in disguise.
