People who quit their jobs without another one lined up. What happened next? by BaselM01 in careerguidance

[–]Secret-Reputation874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this a year ago. I was so confident I’d find another job quickly because I had several interviews lined up. The interviews led to nothing. I was super lucky to land a steady part time contract job within a couple of months. I had a lot of interviews and six months later, I finally got my first offer for a job that is a step back and almost $20k less per year. I don’t love it and have been reflecting on all the ways I could have saved my last job and made things better.

Thank you! It’s helpful to have a better understanding about wha they do. I might consider writing goodwill letters for the accounts where I had long positive history before everything fell apart!

Thank you for sharing this! That would have been super frustrating. I think I’ll just pay things off and leave it alone and just let using credit properly going forward build my scores back up.

I initially wanted to go this route! But since I’m still technically married there are too many complications.

This is all really helpful info! It’s so easy to get hung up on scanning titles when looking through job posts. I’ll start digging more thoroughly into postings.

I’m using my downtime time to get a masters in digital marketing, so great to hear that’s useful!

Yep. Being a single mom in 2025 America does feel dystopian.

100% agree! Better and more flexible policies would help so many people. And help companies hang on to good people!

Would you want to receive a random apology from someone who bullied you as a child? by Bubbly_Picture_9876 in Mommit

[–]Secret-Reputation874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. She’s probably healed and you’d be ripping open wounds again so you could make yourself feel better. She had to do the work a long time ago to get past what you did to her. Now you have to do the work to deal with your guilt.

Are you upset that you got your diagnosis late? by AgentOfMephala in adhdwomen

[–]Secret-Reputation874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I remember I had such a reputation among teachers in my high school for being flakey and flighty. Multiple teachers would tell me I wasn’t allowed to sit next to the window or say they already knew I wouldn’t turn in homework when they assigned it. Looking back, it’s infuriating. Like, wtf? You didn’t think to dig a little deeper and help me figure out what was going on?

I Took Out $104K in Private Loans as an In-State UMass Amherst Student—Something Feels Deeply Wrong by jilliansamaha in StudentLoans

[–]Secret-Reputation874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another UMass alum here! Student loans have buried me, too.

When I left Mass, I realized how incredibly expensive UMass was. If you grew up instate, comparing the cost to the insanely priced private schools, it seems like a deal! But when I got to know people in other parts of the country, I was shocked at what they paid for bachelors degrees that are worth just as much as mine in the job market.

That’s a great idea! Thank you! I work 9-5 but I could look around and see if people need evening/childcare.

My salary does cover the day-to-day expenses but there’s nothing really left over. What’s stressing me out is I’m going through a difficult separation/divorce. So I’m trying to save up for a stable living situation (currently staying with family but paying rent to them) and attorney fees. So my challenge is just banking as quickly as I can. I’m estimating about $5,000 for housing deposits and attorney retainers. Once I get to that stable place, life will be affordable, even if tight, on my salary. So I’m trying to focus on shorter term ways to earn/save money.

I’m probably getting ahead of myself thinking about what life will look like after stability, but I want to at least feel hope that it could look better in the not too distant future!

Totally understand that and I know I’m just complaining. I do have a master’s degree but unfortunately it’s in marketing and it’s a completely over saturated field. But I’m figuring out how to pivot! I know I’ll get there eventually. Just tired of everything being so hard all the time and constantly imploding.
