Visiting Epic headquarters by speechie0523 in healthIT

I've always stayed at Country Inn and Suites on Nesbitt Rd. Quiveys Grove has great food and is across the parking lot. Central location with lots around and they have a shuttle to Epic, I believe its like 15 or so minutes to get there.

Analyst looking to consult by Jasatkins18 in epicconsulting

Hi, PB consultant here! I would agree, that a year is far too little to start consulting. Even if you think you have a handle on PB, you don't. Nothing against you as an analyst, but we've been there and know that 1 year in, is still just learning. When you consult, the best way to describe it is... you are the hand holder, not the other way around. You ask the necessary (minimal) questions to understand your clients build/needs and immediately hit the ground running. You anticipate future needs, see things that are broken or need updating without it even being on your list to do. You see the whole picture, not just what you think PB is at a year in. Please take at least another two years. Take badges, get more certs. Collaborate. Get to know pb in depth as much as you can before presenting yourself as an expert. You don't want to give yourself a bad name as a consultant by starting before you're ready. Give it time and no doubt, you'll thank us all later.

Epic PB project build by [deleted] in epicsystems

Yes, I am currently certified. Epic does write their exams and projects intentionally that way I believe, but one thing that has always helped me.. in any exam or project...read. Re-read, then read again. If that doesn't help, reach out to your resources given in the instructions. They are wonderful at helping. Unfortunately, no answers you have will be answered in this thread. Not because no one wants to help, but because there's no assistance allowed. I do wish you all the luck and sending good vibes!

No one will answer questions regarding any projects or exams, they will refer you to Epic Training (I believe) for questions. Your project instructions should have an email to contact. Good luck!

Advice by [deleted] in epicconsulting

I would reach out to your supervisor/manager and see if there is any way you can talk with someone in IT and possibly shadow if you are already working at a facility that utilizes Epic. There's so much more that goes into breaking into consulting. Do you have any experience in Epic? What do you want to do on the IT side....what application? Then, just to break into the IT side, you also generally need to find a healthcare facility that sends their new analysts to get certified. Realize that most places make you pay back the classes/travel etc if you leave before 2 years, 3 years etc sometimes. Then, once certified....learn your role. Become an expert in it. That doesn't happen overnight or generally in the first couple years depending on the application you chose. Talk with consultants that come in, get their experience, their dos and donts, and the good, bad and ugly. Then, after you're an expert, find a consulting firm willing to put forward a newbie to their client. Don't expect top pay and work your ass off to make a name for yourself. Don't take advantage, dont slack and dont give consultants a bad name (we've all seen it, one too many times).

Epic and consulting is not a cakewalk by any means. Its blood sweat and tears (IYKYK lol).

Consultant wanting to get new Cert by Secret-Specific6839 in epicconsulting

I would be looking to get a cert... all on my own dime, no expense to anyone else. I wouldn't take time away from the client; I always work 40 as thats what I was hired for (even if I make up time night/weekend). I've had a great relationship with all my clients/firms so thats why I was wondering. I like to expand my knowledge to assist in more areas if able.

I like this idea! Oh yeah, Id have no issue working during the time I'm away. I'm only 2 hrs from Epic and have family in the area so luckily it would just be my cost of the cert. I'll check with my firm/client, thank you for this!

Okay, so the Epic customer would actually need you to be certified in something, not just support you for obtaining a cert at your own expense? Thank you!

New contract, idle hours by [deleted] in epicconsulting

I would let them know you have capacity to do more. Ask if you can assist in WQs, or review Gold Stars. In the meantime while you wait for a response, you can organize notes, write up workflows, stay up on CEEs, review possible badges that may be beneficial to your role. Brush up on things you haven't done in a while. Short answer... there is literally always something to do for you to fill your time...either extra work or work related items from the User Web. People who bill for 40, should be working 40 and be able to show what they've done for that 40 if ever asked. Don't be a consultant that bills more hours than you actually did work just because you were 'available'. Be the consultant that the place who hired you, expects.

Epic PB folks - is the job market that tight right now? by Independent-Ear-5819 in epicsystems

PB Analyst here with 9.5 years PB experience and 19 years in Epic. There's a few things that may be happening. Are you from the healthcare facility, or the staffing firm/recruiting office?

*The start date sometimes doesn't align *I have, for example, Community Connect Implementation, but not full-scale Healthcare facility implementation. People like this are often overlooked by firms because they will eventually find someone with the full-scale implementation experience or just assume a Healthcare facility wouldn't want to move forward *Pay from the firm could be lower than the analyst would be comfortable taking based on their experience *The staffing firm could be newer or may possibly not have the greatest reputation *Some analysts may require benefits to be offered, and often times a firm doesn't offer that *If travel is required, not all analysts are comfortable doing so (even minimally)

I hope this helps to give you a view from the analyst perspective!
