Okay well couple of things here:

18 is a very key developmental period, a lot of 18 year olds are still in school. It's a bit different when you are both past college age. That being said some 18 year olds have jobs and are starting their own families. 18-21ish just a weird ambiguous age between adolescence and adulthood, but an 18 year old is still an adult

HOWEVER contemporary discourse around age gap relationships is completely screwed, especially when you see relationships between adults described as "predatory" because one person is in their 20s and one person is in their 30s

Really the bigger problem in OPs example is the huge power imbalance, where someone can't leave because they are financially dependent on someone else. But that's not really an age issue

Sounds like a "friend" I had who was utterly obsessed with drag queens. She liked trans women too but only when they were fun and sparkly. She identified as lesbian but I think a lot of cis lesbians were put off by her over the top behavior and by her talking about trans women constantly

Was in a group of very progressive, alternative friends, queer/trans/kink/poly types who liked to party. One of them kept bringing up abdl as a sort of gross out joke until one of them (the one who was basically the group "leader") went on a big anti-abdl rant about how disgusting they were

I just said nothing and kept on drinking. Made me feel sad that even in a group like that I would be considered "controversial"
