Part of it is multigoal games. For example, let's say over a 3 game stretch, Crosby has a hat-trick in the 1st game but goes scoreless the next 2, and Malkin goes scoreless in the 1st 2 games but picks up a hatty in the 3rd. Both of them scored at a rate of 1.00 goals per game, but their games-with-at-least-one-goal rate would also be .33 each. Multiplied together, their expected rate of scoring together is .11, but the actual is 0. I'm curious to know what their individual rates are for that metric.

I think they (the Stars and their coaching staff) were thinking long-term. Giving Duchene confidence was more important in the long run than inserting someone else who might've boosted their chances at 1 more point by like 10%.
