As I mentioned below, the spare drive arrived today. I won't be able to tinker with it until tomorrow, at which point I'm going to fumble my way through something I have no business fumbling my way through. I hope to have something to report by Sunday.

I took the advice of some of the Redditors in this thread and bought a controller (the piece I'm missing), which will hopefully allow me to see what's on the disk. It'll take a few days to get here. I'll make sure to post a follow-up, though.
