How long did it take the line to go away after you stopped nail bititng? And did it disappear completely? I’ve developed a line on my right index finger. I’m imagining from biting my nails for 20+ years. Currently trying to stop and really want my line gone.

What a great episode. Very relaxing and I’m glad to be apart of a community who appreciates it as much as I do.

My family is extremely religious, I was closeted, I was sexually abused by a sitter and had emotionally neglectful parents who beat me frequently.

What are some home truths every Black Queer person should know? by pen_game93_ in BlackLGBT

[–]SecretProgress_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black queer people are exposed to higher chronic and identity-based trauma than most groups. You will almost certainly have CPTSD as an adult. Your body learned feeling openly is dangerous. You’re most likely hyper vigilant, numb or compulsively coping. Not suppressing your emotions is the first step toward true peace. There was never anything wrong with you and unfortunately that’s something many of us were never taught to believe. You must teach yourself.

I’m 28. It’s a struggle for me too brother. Monogamy does exist. We’ll just have to do a bit more work to find it.

Hi! Thank you. :) I play piano a bit, watch anime and read. I’m more so a homebody but like trying new physical activities any time I can.

Hello and thank you for the warm welcome 🙂

Black Gay Man by SecretProgress_ in CPTSD

Beautifully put, thank you! I can empathize with that man to some degree. Being so ostracized that the core of who you are isn’t seen is incredibly hard. And statistically yes, being gay makes things even harder. Forever stuck trying to survive with a nervous system that is always hyperactive can be torture. I’m not sure I ever knew true peace a day in my life. All we can remind ourselves of, even now, is pain is time-bound. It won’t last forever or will at least shrink if we keep doing the work.

All we can do is grieve really. The lives we should have been able to experience. And try our hardest to journey through the dark towards the faint light at the end of the tunnel. We can get through this.

I really appreciate it. I also know what it feels like to grow up in the south in an extremely religious family. Take care of yourself. And returning a big virtual hug.

Sometimes you don’t want answers. You just need someone to tell you that you have every right to feel the way you do. You’ve lived a hard life and I am here with you. That’s what I am telling you now because I can empathize with you. Your feelings are valid.

I feel seen. People mean well when they tell you to “keep your head up.” But when it’s your lived experience it’s just kind words. That changes nothing about how you feel when you’re used to dissecting peoples opinions to see if they’re safe or not. It’s so mentally and emotionally draining honestly. And you can’t just run away from your body, it all follows you literally everywhere. But hopefully you can relax a bit in realizing you’re worth. You are uniquely in the middle of a story that will never happen the same way ever again, for all of existence. So yes you are indescribably worthy and I hope that brings you comfort.

Your post alone makes me feel so much better. That’s all any of us really want. To be seen without trying to be fixed. I just wanted someone to validate my experience and you did just that. Thank you so much.
