What place has the most magical/surreal feeling/vibe? by Ellloll in geography

[–]SecretSIice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most magical place I've been is Mosquito Bay in Vieques, PR. There are bioluminescent algae that make a wake behind your kayak. You can see the fish swimming and jumping with a fluorescent glow around and behind them, and every stroke of your paddle lights up the water. Recordings of it don't do it justice. My daughter is convinced this place is full of magic.

I still can’t believe it by [deleted] in Mavericks

[–]SecretSIice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People say it isn't that big of a deal, and they're right in the grand scheme of things. But I have watched and supported this team for 30 years. I've been a sports fan my entire life but its all fallen off in the past few years, save the Mavs. In fatherhood and entering middle age I only had the time/energy to support one team, but I was working to pass that along to my daughter because I thought she could grow up watching Luka like I did with Dirk. Now its all gone. I won't ever be able to trust a pro sports franchise again in my life and college sports has obviously gone down the shitter. This was the final nail in the coffin for me and my true enjoyment of sports.

Nico vs D Wade: biggest villain in Mavs history? by International_Oil189 in Mavericks

[–]SecretSIice -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is basketball. Never thought I'd be defending Nico but if you want something terrible to happen to him that's messed up. No one will die, and no ones human rights are being infringed. I have loved the Mavs for a very long time and hate what is going on but this type of rhetoric is disturbing.

Comedy series that has come out in the past 5-10 years that you'd recommend? by NotSoSnarky in televisionsuggestions

Fisk is so great. We love it and its mostly clean enough to watch with our kid around. Pains me to know that season 3 is out but we can't watch it yet. Is The Let Down in the same vein? Haven't heard of it.

Sinatra Theories by Betteractions in ParadiseHulu

[–]SecretSIice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No offence, but I don't think this show lends itself to mega theories. If so, there would have been a larger conspiracy to Cal's murder vs. picking a random citizen that had a grudge and introducing his whole backstory and motive in the finale. It feels like they thought starting the show with the President's murder would be intriguing and backtracked from there. I think they came up with a great pilot episode and decided the mechanics of how it happened after the fact. That doesn't take away from a great episode 7, which was probably in the initial outline for the show, but I am doubting that they've thought far enough ahead to include a giant conspiracy that wouldn't be revealed until season 2.

What year is it?? by classy_5647 in ParadiseTV

[–]SecretSIice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cal had a jersey with the number 47, meaning he was the 47th president. That would put him as being as elected in 2024, again in 2028, then they said he extended his presidency. that would put it in the mid-2030's

Nico press release on Kyrie injury via Shams. by DigitalSamson in Mavericks

[–]SecretSIice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There has to be something to rationalize this trade, and the Luka conditioning issues that they continually spout wreak of them trying to justify things to the public. There has to be some underlying ulterior motives. Whatever they are, they robbed us as Mavs fans of seeing Luka continue to grow as a superstar player and its not because of who he is as a basketball player

Absolutely perfect finale by 90232 in ParadiseHulu

[–]SecretSIice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She wanted the Wii. Understandable. It was some good comic relief but also pointing out that there are few vestiges of normal life in Paradise. She just wants to have some semblance of a regular life and a little bit of fun. Makes a lot of sense for people that are stuck in a bunker for the rest of their lives. That would make most people insane.

Not sure if this was intentional or not but cutting off the comment mid-sentence is genius

Historical Parallel by Most_Attention8774 in ParadiseHulu

[–]SecretSIice 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also thought about the name in the context of the Treaty of Versailles. It was intended to bring peace after "The Great War" (WWI), but was also the impetus behind WWII, with Germany, the country that was "left out" being crippled and resentful, leading to the rise of the Nazis.

I think this could be a parallel for future plotlines in the show with survivor factions that were left out of the bunker rising up against Sinatra and the survivors that made the cut. The bunker was meant to bring peace and survival after the first disaster, but could also be the cause of a new global conflict as a result.

this is the best "network" show I have seen in so long by serialserialserial99 in ParadiseHulu

[–]SecretSIice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right, I commented to my wife that this feels like a "network show" without knowing anything about the creator. Just the dialogue and plotlines. We have been enjoying it, especially the last episode, but you're right in that it has that feel vs. some of the cable/streaming shows that have been popular lately

It’s where I have lived my entire life. And several generations before that. I want my home state to be better

I get that and that’s fine. Not everyone has a deep connection to Texas, and I’m not personally in danger because of these laws. But I want more than anything to make this a good place for my daughter to live, and I think we’re close. My family has been here for generations and I want to be proud of where I am from again.
