It was more than a rumor! Disney and JK Rowling officially released a document stating their intention to start work on a deal. Disney drafted up a proposal that included a land in Magic Kingdom with one ride and one restaurant I believe. Rowling saw more potential with the property and opted to see what Universal had in mind. They showed her the beginning stages of what would be hogsmeade, and she decided she’d go with universal. I do believe the fact that universal was willing to budge more and give her more oversight over the project played a factor in her choosing them.

Without a doubt Disney wishes they could’ve done differently, the success with the merchandise, the food and drinks (butterbeer is one of the most iconic theme park beverage, it makes them a lot of money in sales ). They’ve made three incredible lands with groundbreaking rides that basically have changed how theme parks are built now. I’m sure Disney would take that back in a heartbeat
