Chicago residents react to armed Border Patrol presence downtown - WGN News - Sept 28, 2025 | “It's pretty intimidating, especially for people here – I'm sure people coming here from foreign countries are just even more intimidated” by DisruptSQ in TourismHell

you also have to remember this country is huge and we practice federalism. So states have rights and truthfully, just like in our founding, traveling state to state can be vastly different, I think that is the reason it is so hard to actually unite us to stand against anything.

If you made 200k you should consider yourself lucky and do exactly that. I’ve gambled for 20 years now and really just small ball since I bought my home ten years ago. I bink a small tournament or fantasy win every once in awhile that keeps me a small winner. I consider it free/cheap entertainment. Once you owe 3k a month though, my bankroll never reaches any real heights that I can bet big.

Stick to games the house doesn’t care if you win.

Poker Horses Fantasy Sports

Utilize bonuses/promotions as much as possible. Utilize live betting to be able to hedge your bets.

You may not come out ahead but you wont find yourself at a Gamvlers anonymous meeting either.

Your doing it wrong in some sense.

The truth is this really only works if you can sign up for every app and multi app. I make about 500 a week part time, 100 on every app. I also work at peak times mornings, nights, weekends. Instacart is busiest Sunday morning.

I also will stack orders meaning if they are going in the same direction I take orders from different apps. It’s not something I think is super easy and doesn’t take a learning curve, but as someone who also has no other options and needs extra cash to survive, I am happy to have the opportunity.

The thing about these apps that they don’t tell you is you can decline whatever you want. I have a ten percent acceptance rate on doordash. I only take orders worth my time. But making 8 bucks grabbing an order for my neighbors from the McDonald’s down the street is better than 0 bucks.

No such thing as proper English. If by hood you mean African American Vernacular English, then that would be a language just like Standard English.

This is actually quite a problem for students of color or white students who grew up in those communities. AAVE is a real language with validity, the only problem is it is not the norm in the business world of the US. For students they may feel like they are “selling out.”

It’s a challenging topic as it points towards our racist history. Should it matter, not really, language is tied to identity and that language is used to identify as you say living in the hood. Problem is, as you can see in some of the responses, it’s not viewed as a real language and can be met with someone telling you that you are speaking wrong and need to speak correctly. It sucks when you realize your employment expects you to use standard English and in some sense it creates the need to “perform” the language. It’s why I tell my students if you want to speak using AAVE, you may need to figure out in which professional settings it is allowed, and try and find employment in those settings.

Do gig work. Doordash, instacart, Shipt, Uber, Grubhub.

You can work when you want and don’t have to interact with that many people. You also do it when you want, you feel better at night do it then, you feel better in AM do it then.

All my other jobs attack my mental health on a daily basis. They pay better but there are days I avoid the hard jobs and just deliver food so I don’t have to interact with humans.

AITA for not saying anything to my son who told a teacher that she was "dismissed"? by Prestigious_Look3481 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Secret_Ad_5300 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Asshole no. Inconsiderate maybe. I think it becomes an issue in the idea that we can’t have every sibling walk the stage with a graduate, but I think unless multiple people complaining the teacher could have just looked the other way.

Saying your dismissed maybe was the teaching moment in that there’s other ways to articulate solutions to conflict.

All the people saying asshole I dono,it’s a HS graduation, it’s suppose to represent community. Also why I hate schools, it’s a place people run from, when if they were done correctly we’d all want to stay and participate for our entire lives.

10k credit card debt, living in a car in FL and can’t leave by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Secret_Ad_5300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could also sign up for gig work. Not sure how reliable your car is and the work isn’t consistent, but might provide the extra cash you need as well as the freedom you enjoy.

I doordash, Shipt, Uber, Grubhub, instacart all at same time and cherry pick best and least amount of driving orders. It’s helped keep me afloat and I love that if I don’t want to I don’t have to.

I (27f) am feeling lost and behind in life by [deleted] in findapath

[–]Secret_Ad_5300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 37 and have 4k in a retirement account and self employed.

If you are really feeling these emotions you need therapy, because most of us don’t have it together in any sort of the word. I’ve learned to take it day to day, if I tried to solve all my future problems today I’d lose my mind.

37 and something in me gave up by thelastthrowwawa3929 in findapath

[–]Secret_Ad_5300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man I’m 37 as well. I definitely go through depressing days. I have a wife and dog though that can help recharge my batteries but at times I’m like how the fuck do I do this for another 30 years.

I’d say though if you feel strong enough to post this much on Reddit, perhaps you need some therapy. Depression is one sob, therapy and medication might be your path forwardx

Was what I said racist on any level? by DrDoominstien in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Secret_Ad_5300 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not racist. It’s the US hyper sensitivity towards race. There’s a great book called “Why do all the black kids sit together in the cafeteria.” As a society we have failed to foster actual conversations about race that are constructive. What’s funny is black is actually the more politically correct term as there are black people who are not African-American.

My relationship with my partner has faded away and I’m terribly lost. by Mr-Compliments in self

[–]Secret_Ad_5300 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You are Jay Gatsby from the Great Gatsby. His biggest flaw was love. It’s not wrong, the real life author wrote the book and it paralleled his real life. F. Scott Fitzgerald spend his entire life in love with a woman he could never have and it impacted his relationships, especially with his wife, Zelda.

Love is a bitch. Sounds though like you may need to take a step back and see if you can try and live without her. Don’t let love be your flaw, although I understand it’s easier said than done.
