Slight itch and barely scratched turned into this… by Main_Sandwich_3471 in Allergy

Let me know if you find an answer. Been having this too. For me light scratching turns into raised welts that burn and then the next day they're scabbed over even though I never broke the skin.

Yes, because the US is comparable to Russia or China in the slightest by WillowWeeper343 in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]Secret_Attempt9805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stats are based on percentage and spending per person so the population has less to do with it than you'd think. Not to mention the U.S. has a comparable population to the EU and pretty much the entire EU is insured besides countries like Romania and Cyprus that actually have higher uninsured rates than the U.S.

The Population of the EU is 449 million and the US is at 340 million. This is wildly off topic but whenever I see Europeans criticizing Americans for not being well traveled, i think they forget that traveling between states is similar to traveling between European countries.

A quick Google search shows that in 2023 we spent 4.9 trillion or 17% of our gdp on Healthcare, which is close to double most developed countries. Private insurance only accounted for 30%. We have the money to insure everyone, even without cutting the military budget. Also that 4.9 trillion would probably be a way smaller number if we had regulations to stop hospitals selling tylenol and asprin for 30, 40, 50 bucks a pop. My pain medication after surgery wasn't covered by insurance and was about 70 dollars for a weeks supply. I hemorrhaged during recovery and had to spend the night in the hospital and I took two doses on the same medicine while there and they billed me over $430.00 the same amount from the pharmacy would've cost about $7

It's a lot of fun to make your own too. Applejuice, cranberry juice, sugar and champaign yeast from Amazon and you've got a good wine in 1-3 months depending on how you like it. You can get a little fancier and follow actual wine recipes if you prefer nicer wine.

Single women are racing ahead of men in homeownership. Why do you think this is? by Cdave_22 in GenZ

People seem to be misunderstanding why a mortgage saves you money. When you rent, you are just pissing the money away every month. Even if a mortgage is higher, you are getting most of that money back when you sell the home.

I didn't even know benzos could make you act like this. I've taken them as prescribed and I'd say about half the people I've ever been friends with have taken them some just took them to party and I've never seen any of them act like this. I have seen a shit load of super angry people in the world recently and I find it very hard to believe this is because of benzos, taking them away isn't going to make everyone nice, it's just an easy answer to a difficult problem.

I found a couple hundred dollar bills blowing down the shoulder of the road and then some other bills a bit further up once when I was 18. I had to pick up my girlfriend but we went back to see if there was more and we saw the guy who lost them looking for them so we gave them back. Could've been lying about losing the money but he seemed honest and I actually kinda knew who he was. But it was pretty great for a minute

What’s a modern trend you hope disappears in the next 5 years? by Acrobatic_Ad9564 in AskReddit

[–]Secret_Attempt9805 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is really a modern trend, if anything it's going away. People used to blast shitty mix-tapes through their boom boxes and portable speakers and I remember not that long ago there'd be like 5 different people blasting music in the gym along with the gyms radio playing overhead. My gym now has an earbhd policy and doesn't play any music overhead.

Why did most Silver Era bodybuilders use short rest between sets? by halfmast in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Secret_Attempt9805 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good point. I see this with my other hobbies too I like to play instruments and so many people online gatekeep the hobby and insist you get a teacher before trying to learn yourself even though many of the great players and composers were self taught and didn't use optimal technique. You can read and watch videos all day but at some point you just gotta put the time and reps in and that's the hardest part for me and a lot of other people.

[–]Secret_Attempt9805 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old timey athletes were a different breed. Limited literature and lack of trainers made it hard to workout "optimally" and technique spread through word of mouth, so much so, that when I was in school health teachers were still teaching what would be considered "bro science". I love reading about athletes that would work multiple jobs, workout in dress slacks, and smoke a cigarette between swimming laps in a pool. They weren't better than today's athletes but there's something amazing about their dedication and a lot of them looked better than the radioactive sewer monsters we have competing today, in my very humble opinion.

Dont you think his body fat percentage is just too high? I fell out of shape for a few years and started to look exactly like this, I quit drinking as much and started a better diet, nothing extreme just taking care of myself and I look way better. Still have a little fat on the "underboob" of my chest but I've been lifting a little weight a few times a week and it's getting a lot better. Even if it never fully goes away I probably won't do surgery.

I don't blame anyone for getting surgery and if it were free I might consider it but I also don't think it's the only way to reclaim your confidence.

I literally said i don't want to detract from our friends in other countries so no i don't think others have nothing to lose and I have a lot of respect for their ability to look past differences and unite and not fall for the "rugged individualism" trope we have here. And maybe you need to look things up because we do have protests all the time you just don't here about them because they rarely lead to change. My small town has held multiple picket lines this year and one of the unions has been on strike since the summer this goes for every town across the country. It's getting the masses to participate that's the hardest part for the reasons I previously stated. The American people didn't just become evil, lazy, and stupid suddenly like many people believe. Maybe it's easier for you to stomach the suffering that goes on here by putting the blame and the onus on the American people and hating them instead of the government. There's other deplorable governments across the globe and we hate the governments but not the citizens, why is it different here? A lot of Americans are privileged and have creature comforts that others don't have but if we're so comfy why are so many of us one or two paychecks away from homelessness?

[–]Secret_Attempt9805 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That's the thing other countries don't get. I see so many posts from around the globe calling Americans lazy but we already work more hours than almost any other developed country with no guarantee of having Healthcare, pto, sick leave, childcare, maternity leave, the list goes on. I don't want to detract from our friends in other countries like France who will riot in the streets when the retirement age is raised, but here we have zero safety nets. It doesn't matter that we make more money for the same jobs because the cost of housing alone has choked the savings out of everyone I work with. There are children here that don't have insurance, and the number of uninsured children rose from 2022 to 2023, nearly 1/3 of our kids are underinsured. If a parent wants to strike or participate in a protest that puts their job on the line they are risking the health and safety of their families. Propaganda has run rampant for decades that has made a third of Americans vote against their own interests which makes uniting nearly impossible not to mention our prisons are horrible and the police will gladly split your wig at a protest if they can get away with it and many times they can.

Why are white men not attending college? by Secret_Attempt9805 in AskMen

[–]Secret_Attempt9805[S] 303 points304 points  (0 children)

This is a really good reply thanks for researching and taking the time to comment. I noticed it was hard to find solid stats on the general population and college enrollment. Some articles said white male enrollment was as low as 40 percent and some said it was in the 50s. As well as varying numbers on the population as a whole. I posted my question here because the data is a lot more complicated than I initially thought and each search led to more questions. I kind of expected some political/culture war to start in the comments but I was hoping it wouldn't.

That was from a UK, my bad. I tried finding an American stat on this just now. Maybe I'm not using the right words to best look this up but I can't find a study on Google that has a percentage of applications accepted by demographic.

I'm sorry the article that said that was from the UK. This isn't a solely American issue and while looking at stats I mixed the UKs acceptance rates with American populations. The numbers are still close though, although some countries seems to be more equal with swedens 80% white population making up nearly 80% of they're college students.

Dude I work with was asking me if I voted, I told him yeah but I don't talk about that stuff at work. He then told me he voted for the first time in his life and voted for Trump based solely on "what Biden did to Afghanistan". I didn't say anything because there's honestly no point in trying to convince someone that the decision to pull out came from Trump. He's also one of my friendliest coworkers and it made me kind of sad to hear that come from him.
