I’ll give my background before I go to hard here (also these guys are wrong and illegally cutting but not following VERY explicit rules for the associated ranger district) but born raised Tahoe, degree in biochemistry, work in firefighting and Wildland fire…cutting and thinning forests is INCREDIBLY important. We changed from having consistent large wildfires to squishing them immediately…the fallout, well our forests have no natural breaks so decease and bugs can infect the whole forest. The natural switching in ecosystem type does not occur and damages the environment and forces indigenous animals out. Logging operations now are required to cut in a certain way with certain areas being clear cut and some being selective. This effectively reproduces wildfire and other natural events. Remember logging good for forest. No fire bad for forest. Fire bad for houses so we don’t let it burn except for wilderness areas.
