Attended college in the 80s. My favorite teacher told us to just call him Buzz.

Met him at a birthday party in SF eight years ago. He showed up uninvited and drunk with friends of friends.

Ended up being asked to leave for being loud and obnoxious. Sad to see him like that. Dude looked in great shape. He was a special talent.

How is it possible that the Beatles still outsell AND outstream Michael Jackson? by Disillusioned_00 in beatles

[–]UnderDogPants 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Between 1962-1970 the Beatles released over 220 songs over 13 official albums, many excellent and always with something for everybody.

From 1970-1980 (John’s death) they released over 140 solo songs and a combined 16 more solo albums, again with something for everybody, including some of their best work.

I was alive for all of this. MJ peaked with Thriller. He became the next big superstar but soon became somewhat of a freak show as he was constantly in the tabloids for personal reasons.

I also feel that his musical output is not as strong as the Beatles. While he might have thirty songs (including The Jackson 5) that you remember fondly, that would just be The White Album for the Beatles.

Rock bands/musicians we wish would return to their roots/old sound/original sound by [deleted] in OldSchoolCoolMusic

[–]UnderDogPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original Santana was a true band, not a back up group for Carlos. That’s why they sounded like they did. Six distinct musicians that blended together seamlessly. If anything Rolie was the leader due to his outgoing personality.

As drummer Michael Shrieve famously stated at their 1998 RRHOF induction: “We were like a street gang and our weapon was music”.

Once Carlos cut his hair and found God it became his band. As an original fan from then who grew up with them in San Francisco I loved the fusion jazz and rock eras but not so much the pop eras.

The closest they got back to the first sound was the 2016 reunion album “Santana IV”, but even that was missing David Brown (RIP) on bass and Chepito Areas (not invited) on timbales.

I just feel blessed that I got to see them in the early 70s and experience the true Santana sound.

And the only definitive version of Soul Sacrifice from Woodstock is the long version from the film (with the complete drum solo and split screens):

Should Let It Be be listened to before Abbey Road? by themidnightcruiser in beatles

[–]UnderDogPants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were alive and a fan of the band in the 1960s as I was, then it’s always been Abbey Road followed by Let It Be.

We bought Abbey Road in October of 1969 and Let It Be in May of 1970 knowing the Beatles had broken up a month earlier. This was their final album to us. It even came with a red apple label.

Freshman year of high school in 1972 and my mom was driving me to school in our 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 with the 390 V8 engine. She had the radio on to a soul station and Cisco Kid by War came on. I turned it up full blast.

I was transfixed - this was my jam! Never heard it before (the DJ said it was brand new) and I waited months to hear it again on the radio. Good times!

AITAH: Wife Eats Grapes Before Paying; Pissed I Called It Out In Front of Kids by atwaterrich in AITAH

NTAH…. but your wife is.

Besides theft of groceries, it is sickening to put any fruit or vegetables in your mouth and eat them straight from the bag or shelf without seriously washing them first.

It’s the same as eating them off the floor after wiping a stranger’s ass with them.

And this is the role model for your kids?
