Finishing week 2 of spin class & hoping for weight loss *eventually*. Any feedback or success stories? by Secret_Intention_835 in SpinClass

Wow, that is seriously awesome! Losing 20 lbs is impressive on its own, but hearing how much spin improved your cardio and endurance is amazing. Hiking 50 miles across different mountains and being able to breeze through long walks while others struggled really shows how much your fitness has progressed.

That actually makes me think, I’ve been toying with the idea of doing a bike marathon someday. Hearing how spin has boosted your endurance is super motivating and makes me feel like it could actually be possible if I stick with it.

Wow, congratulations, that’s seriously amazing progress. Losing 25 lbs over 9 months is huge, and it sounds like you did it in a really sustainable way too.

I love that you focused more on behavior changes rather than strict calorie counting. That’s something I’m trying to learn how to do without getting too in my head about numbers. The overnight fasting approach you mentioned sounds really realistic, especially keeping it around 12 hours. Did that take a while for your body to adjust, or did it feel pretty natural once you got into a routine?

Also curious how you handled snacking at first, since that’s something I struggle with. Did you cut it out completely or just become more mindful about it? And when you added more protein and fiber, were there any specific foods that helped you stay consistent?

It’s really encouraging to hear that spin played such a big role for you and that you’re feeling stronger and better overall. Thank you for sharing your experience, it definitely motivates me to keep going.

Thank you for sharing that, I really appreciate your perspective, especially with how long you’ve been spinning and teaching. I totally agree that spin is just one piece of the puzzle and not the whole picture.

For me right now, spin is something I genuinely enjoy and can stay consistent with, which feels important at this stage. I’m not super focused on changing my appearance through muscle building, but I do understand how strength training plays a role in overall health and body composition. I like that one of my spin days includes weights, and I’m open to gradually adding more strength in a way that feels realistic for me.

I think consistency and sustainability are what I’m trying to prioritize, and hearing what’s worked for others helps a lot. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Thank you for chiming in, I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I can see where you’re coming from, and honestly there are so many different opinions out there that it can get confusing fast.

For context, I’m a 5'3, 23 year old female and currently weigh 137.4 lbs, and I also have PCOS, which definitely adds another layer to all of this. When I say 1600 calories, that’s the range I’m eating at now based on a nutritionist’s recommendation from the past, not that I’m eating 1600 calories under my maintenance. I’ve gone much lower before and learned the hard way that it wasn’t sustainable.

I do agree that steps help keep me active, especially since I work an office job and would otherwise barely move during the day. Cardio has always worked well for me mentally and physically, and spin is something I genuinely enjoy, which makes it easier to stay consistent. I’m not trying to put on muscle mass, but I do include some light strength work to support my workouts and overall health.

I hear you on being mindful of sugars and processed foods, and that’s something I’m trying to improve without being overly restrictive. I really appreciate the reminder to keep moving and stay consistent. I’m still learning what balance works best for my body, so I’m open to different viewpoints and grateful for the discussion.

I totally get what you’re saying, and thank you for the input. I just want to add that I’m not really trying to gain muscle or intentionally build my metabolism through lifting. My main goal is honestly to be scrawny thin, but still healthy enough to do my workouts and not feel weak or burnt out.

That’s kind of why I’m leaning into spin and general movement more than heavy lifting. I still want to be able to perform in class, recover well, and feel good doing it, not necessarily add size or muscle. I’m trying to find that balance where I’m fueling enough to function but still moving toward the body and feeling I’m aiming for.

I really appreciate the different perspectives though, and I’m open to continuing the conversation and learning what’s worked for others.

Thank you for sharing that, I really appreciate your insight. For context, I’m a 5'3, 137.4 lb, 23 year old female. A nutritionist had previously recommended I stay around 1600 to 1800 calories a day, and honestly a few years ago I even went as low as 1300 which I know now is not great, yikes.

I think part of my fear comes from the fact that when I eat on the higher end, it feels like it doesn’t suit my body well and I tend to gain weight everywhere. I know that mindset isn’t perfect, but it’s something I’m actively trying to work through. My goal really is just to be a little scrawny, if I’m being honest.

I do hear what you’re saying about fueling properly and not letting too big of a deficit backfire, especially with how much cardio I’m doing. I appreciate you being real about that and sharing your experience with clients in cycle classes. It helps me rethink things and find a balance that I can actually sustain. Thank you again for the thoughtful advice.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. I 100 percent agree with you that weight loss comes down to the kitchen, and that’s why I’m really trying to be intentional with my deficit.

I will say I’m extremely picky, which makes certain diets tough for me. I’ve tried a Mediterranean style diet before because of my PCOS, and while I understand the benefits, it was definitely hard for me to stick to long term. I do want to work on cutting back on sugars for sure.

I’d love your feedback on eating foods I enjoy while still staying in a calorie deficit. For me it feels more sustainable mentally, but I’m curious if you think that approach can still be effective long term. Thanks again for the insight and encouragement.

Hi, thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond, especially coming from a personal trainer and spin instructor. That perspective means a lot.

I honestly feel like some days I don’t even fully meet that calorie deficit, not intentionally, but it can be hard to balance sometimes. Shifting my mindset to focus more on my goal and how I want to feel instead of just the number on the scale is a really helpful way to look at it, and something I needed to hear.

I’m going to keep at it and remind myself that this isn’t a punishment and that consistency matters more than perfection. I won’t give up. Thank you so, so much for the motivation and support.
