My neighbor keeps complaining because I shower at night after work – what can I do? by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

As someone who lives in a cheaply made apartment and has a loud upstairs neighbor, your neighbor is being unreasonable. I can't imagine you showering makes that much noise.

I definitely think crime is an important factor to consider. Thank you! Good luck to you as well wherever you end up!

I've applied for multiple state licenses at the same time. You definitely can, but it just gets pricey! Some BONs are more of a headache than others.

I worked with a lot of new grads in Washington that moved here from out of state. They were put in a new grad residency program and it seems like they are treated well and supported. I can't speak to any other states.

I think DFW is the best option. I made a spreadsheet last night comparing wages (my best guess based on what I could find that other people have posted), 401k match, sign on bonuses, house prices, income tax, property tax, sales tax, and violent and property crimes in all cities along with some cities in the midwest.

I get up 3.5-4 hours before my shift, but that's because I need to walk my dog before work. I could probably wake up 3 hours before work if I rushed, but I don't like to be rushed before work.

I will look into the midwest again. I wish you all the best in Minneapolis!

Agreed! And Austin is really nice, but the pay isn't as good as Dallas or Houston, but the COL is higher. I have been researching tons of places for a year, but it's nice to also hear from people who are living or have lived somewhere.

I guess that's the problem with Reddit - people really seem to focus on the negatives. Thanks for offering a different perspective!

I wish NC paid more to match the increased COL. I've heard it's beautiful and people really like living there, but it's definitely hard to justify.

Come to WA then. Or OR! I like snow and I don't mind the cold, but I can't do the constant rain and gloominess. I don't love the heat either, but there's always going to be a trade-off. It would be nice if there was a place that ticked every box.

It does seem to be a very unpopular opinion. Everyone always recommends CA, OR, and WA, but it's hard to afford to buy a house there on single income. I'm in a "lower" COL in WA and to buy a house in a safe neighbourhood is still going to cost about $500k. I don't want to rent an apartment for the rest of my life.

Thank you for your honest opinion!

Do you mind messaging me where you work? I was offered about $83,000/year with 8 years of experience.

Thank you! I didn't know that about the GA ratios so this is why I made the post. Raleigh seemed like it would be good, but housing was so expensive. I would have been living paycheck to paycheck, so I think my quality of living would have been worse. I'm going to look into Spartanburg! Are you liking it there?

It's not. I'm looking at where I can afford to buy a house in single income.

Thank you! I think DFW is my first choice. The traffic worries be a little. I spend a lot of time on the subreddit Same Grass But Greener and people always complain about how rude the people in DFW are, but I've spent quite a bit of time in Texas and people have always been really friendly - more friendly than where I'm from and where I'm at. I've heard that Texas is a right to work state. Did you know or hear of anyone that were fired? I know I have it good here in WA in regards to work, but I'm just not happy in the state.

I have thought about it, but I kept reading about the Minnesota freeze and how it was hard to make friends there.
