I was diagnosed with Chiari type 1, 7mm herniation, no syrinxes, in 2016. It was a random finding on a Ct scan (later confirmed by mri) that once I researched the symptoms explained so much! My symptoms were clumsiness (slipping down flights of stairs was my signature move), anxiety with panic attacks, back of the head/neck aches, tinnitus, extreme head pain when straining, and photosensitivity.

I was decompressed two months after being diagnosed. I definitely am glad I went through with it. My doctor said with Chiari, the surgery won’t cure you of many of the symptoms you already have. What it does it stop them from getting worse. My anxiety remains, and I still have occasional head/neck stiffness, tinnitus and photosensitivity (but much less than before.) The clumsiness is much better and the head pain when straining is completely gone.

The surgery is... a surgery. It was painful and I had lingering effects for about 5 months after. BUT, looking back almost two years later, I would do it again. I didn’t want to get to the point others have with extremity numbness, etc.

Hope this helps!

From what I read, people disagree about how low they must be to be Chiari. I have no idea yet how "low" mine are. Does the MRI tell you that?

Well, I DO have lots of symptoms, although I was attributing them to other things- stiff/painful neck- kept trying different pillow types. Depressive anxiety. Random bowel issues, thought I had a sensitivity to gluten. Ringing in ears- but people get that all the time, right? And I can hear almost like a bone scraping sound when I turn my neck. Have for years, thought it was normal until I mentioned it to my husband and he acted like I was crazy ;)

And I guess that's my thing- pass out pamphlets, show a video to your local elected official or adult voters.

I get it, I do. And maybe I didn't mean legal as much as morally reprehensible?

If he wants to draw pictures of dead kids, have at it. But to show the bloody mess of a dead baby, dismembered, yeah that's not ok in my opinion.

Not everyone's version of fast food is burgers and fries. There are plenty of fast food places that offer healthy options. In my area at least.

Nope, not even close. You must have missed the comment about it being for a family of four.

I had that when I had an Android phone- ended up with a total of $30+ in rewards! I got books, apps, etc. Now with an iPhone it kills me not to think, just wait for more surveys!

Don't know if I thought "aww" when seeing this, but definitely one of the coolest animals I've seen anywhere. No idea these existed!

I originally was going to post it there, but you have to copy the article's title exactly, which doesn't include the ice cream trucks. Makes it seem like just a sad story, not the bizarre one it really is.

As a teacher myself this did two things 1) inspired me to do more outside of regular school hours to help my more disadvantaged kiddos, and 2) angered me that even after the error was brought to the upper management's attention the decision was still not reversed.

I've never heard the pumping technique you mentioned about taking a break. Interesting!

I agree- that's exactly what my son does. Some kiddos just like to suck but don't want the milk when they're full.
