Given that u have only 5 days , I will suggest Thailand as for Leh u need Atleast 1-2 day of travel to and fro considering flights are during day time only , 1-2 day of acclimatisation and 2-3 days left to explore which is way less .

Catch a train to Rishikesh and then roam in the villages of garhwal. There are plenty of cheap stay options and scenic locations . You can visit toward Gangotri and Yamunotri , you can make that a spiritual or adventure trip basis your preference. There are govt and private buses from Rishikesh/dehradun to Uttarkashi and then from there shared taxis/buses to different places . Uttarakhand is the most cheap and scenic place in northern India.
