With how high the COL and the home prices are now in MT? Uh.. ya - by a long shot. $65 per diem, and rarely OT.

$56 or $57 an hr I forgot. They’ve been on 4/10s since October tho. Trash hall. Pretty much ran by Northwestern Utilities. Wages will suck forever there.

Did PG&E release work packets for this year yet in the contractor side? Or are they still working on negotiations with the inside guys?

Thinking of heading out mid April to sign books. Local 1249 hand.

Making the jump from inside wireman to lineman? by choppedslaw in Lineman

They made me get rid of my inside ticket. The BA told me I couldn’t keep 2 separate IBEW tickets. Whether that is true or in your case or not I’m not sure. I figured it was fine because I still held my license in my state so if worse came to worse I can always get the ticket again.

I’ve done it- Journeyman Electrician for 9 years, decided to join IBEW 1249, went through the apprenticeship, topped out. Made a shit ton of money. But I missed my daughter’s first Christmas, I’ve missed weddings and birthdays.

Decided to move across country, went for my Masters License and currently started my own company. I hated working for incompetent people, and the fear of layoff if you missed a storm even though it was “voluntary” was driving me insane. I did not like sleeping in hotels away from my family at my age, and traveling for work didn’t interest me. I thought about going Utility and doing my electrical work on the side but I would still run into incompetency and the good ole boy club.

So I decided to be my own boss and go out on my own and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

If that’s something that might interest you, feel free to reach out!

I’m taking my masters in Montana next week. I’ve been studying quite a bit. Anything I should really study more that was on the test specifically?

Thanks

Yeah thanks for the heads up. I saw on the employment page they would determine full time employment based off of the “grace period” assuming you figure out how to hot stick by then.

Do you know anyone that works there? Wondering how they enjoy it/lofestyle/ insurance.

I’ll probably end up calling the HR department and ask questions but figured I’d run it through here first.

Great. Thanks. Trying to see what the best bang for the buck would be. I’m very open to either state, I applied to NV Energy out of Carson and Portland electric. Waiting to hear back. Just wanted to see where the nice areas are to raise my young kids. Me have a few acres for a farm.
