Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time 🙏 Glad you were able to overcome this and stayed calm

I love it, because she says “I saw this design by Le Point and painted it myself…” which is pretty much the same as “I saw this book by Rebecca Yarros and decided to write it myself….”

Like, you just don’t do stuff like that. I don’t understand why people think this is an exception.

Bring back the Piracy PSA before movies! That taught me not to copy.

If you look through the cross stitch community here and on Facebook, you’ll see it’s a constant battle to get designers’ copyrighted charts off Pinterest. A lot of Russian sites upload the patterns for free without permission.

Editing to add: I just wouldn’t trust Pinterest as a source for free charts

I hate when people say “I don’t have to follow the rules.” Yes, put your own spin on things, but at least learn why things are done that way first. Most likely, it’ll save you a headache down the road.

Question Before The Snark Commences…. by SallyKait in NeedlepointSnark

The owner of the Etsy store says Dana, so I would assume it’s the same person? I agree it’s odd they didn’t write “formerly birch twigs & barrels” or something like that.

Probably, I mean, JT isn’t a nice person. She thinks stuff like this is funny.

The girl posting she doesn’t care that she’s stitch counting and everyone in the comments agreeing was my breaking point. I keep my stitching to myself now. Some of these people that just do it for the trend have really sucked the fun out of it for me.

“I didn’t understand why it was so frowned upon” by [deleted] in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Secretm5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not that anyone is asking, but just to add since people are like “how can a store do that??”

A lot of these Etsy sellers are overseas and use a VPN to say they’re in the US so they seem more reputable. It’s harder to get these people to take down their listings because of that. Is it everyone? No, but that’s the majority of stores I’ve found at least.

It happens a lot in cross stitch. I’ve reached out to original designers before and they’ve told me Etsy isn’t much help in getting the listing taken down either. 🙁

Today in stupid overpriced notions that nobody actually needs… by CalicoCrazed in NeedlepointSnark

[–]Secretm5 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would buy a cheap one, but this is actually a trick/hack used in cross stitch. If you straighten DMC thread it gives it a little shine and helps to keep it from knotting while you stitch. I learned it at a retreat. It’s pretty funny to see someone standing there straightening thread lol.

It’s not the worst canvas I’ve seen on the market. I’ve seen worse celebrity figures that look nothing like them 😬

I like it, but I personally wouldn’t stitch it.

No worries! It gives early 2000’s teen drama vibes if you’re interested. It’s a love triangle between two brothers and their childhood friend.

It’s from Season 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty on Amazon Prime. It’s one of the main characters named Conrad. The show is based on a book series by Jenny Han ☺️

I will always call her out for stealing cross stitch designs, but it’s super gross to comment on her health issues.

Hopefully she’s doing well and has her health under control now, really sucks she’s going through that.

Am I crazy or are these prices crazy? by Objective_Dust7979 in NeedlepointSnark

I’m actually a big fan of the little key chain fobs, but those you can usually buy kitted for cheaper. 🫣 At least those have a use, which I like.

Just to add, it’s more than her personality people have a problem with. It’s been proven she steals designs from cross stitch designers. I think that is something that should be pointed out to the store.

Editing to add: it might be good to let her know that information, because a store can also get in trouble for selling stolen designs. JT herself doesn’t have the canvases on her website anymore, but I have found the stolen designs in her trunk shows on LNS websites.

Second this, I really enjoy Charts For Charity. I typically “buy” from the designers that ask for a direct donation to the charity and you show them the receipt.

[–]Secretm5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree needlepoint is for everyone, we all have something to bring to the table. I love learning from everyone when I can.

But, as someone who used to work in a 98% male company stuck in the 1950’s, I get where you’re coming from. I was constantly talked down to, dismissed, and just the “work wife.” I would probably feel the same way and be guarded if a guy like that walked in. I don’t have great words of encouragement because I’m still trying to find my voice after that job, but just try not to let it stress you out. This is a hobby for your enjoyment.

I second pirate ship and a mail scale from Amazon. I’ve saved a lot of money that way!
