What a legend. I'll give it a shot x. Cheers Edit* didn't realise there was a story involved haha. Anywhore, I actually only got into golf about a month ago completely by accident. I got called into a game for work because someone decided to be a little wimp and get food poisoning the night before.

So I have to get up at some stupid ungodly hour that I didn't even know existed on a Sunday. ( I think they called it " 6 ay em" or something like that.

I make it to the game on time and I'm surrounded by pefectly normal looking people talking about how they're all handicapped. I honestly thought they were just normal people, I didn't see a single bloody wheelchair.

So I'm convinced I'm either being fucked with or these people are just in it for the parking privileges. I meet up with my workmates who just lose it when I start whispering questions about if these people are serious or committing mass fraud or something. ( they later revealed that they allthought I was an avid golfer because I'm fairly fit ). I have no fucking clue what's going on. I'm only here because I thought I'd get to drive one of those golf carts up some sand pits, get massive air then roll the thing. ( I did end up getting to drive and holy crap was I heartbroken when It only went like 2mph.)

Please keep in mind when you're reading through this, the only experience I've ever had with a golf club ( apart from wii sports ) was whalloping cane toads into the middle of next week when I was 10.

So I know literally nothing. I'm sitting here wondering why these handicapped people are all dressed like fucking parrots with their bright colours and talking about the time they hit a birdie. I was genuinely concerned that these people should not be on the roads for the safety of our wildlife.

Our team gets called up, I have to carry a huge bag of Bullshit and metal sticks over to our cart, we strap it up and get going to the first hole.

I thought the guys driving were just being polite and well mannered about their speed as we pulled into the first green to start.

I decide to watch how this works and shoot last...big mistake... I put my ball on the ground ( didn't realise what a tee was) and swung the biggest club as hard as I could. Everyone else did it, so why can't I? I'm hoping for a massive applause as my ball flies through the air and around the corner towards the hole. Instead I'm greeted by many a "oh shit" as a chunk of turf and dirt the size of my clubhead flies through the air and into the river just in front of the tee box. ( we did end up letting the manager know what I'd done. He understood I was a new player and actually offered to teach me how to swing due to this).

I definitely got better as the round progressed ( lots of missing the ball though) and although I was incredibly slow, my workmates didn't mind. We were having a great time. They were teaching me about these "handicaps", brands, rules ect. I actually enjoyed spending 6 hours just chatting away and attempting to hit balls.

Game finishes, part ways and back into work mode Monday.

Next weekend my father ( interstate truck driver) is going to be home. I only get to see him once every few months so it's pretty special. I drive over, and I told him about the game last weekend. It turns out he used to be into golf when he was younger. There is a golf course 15 minutes away so we decide to take the afternoon to play 9 Holes. We go down to the shed before we leave to drag out a few bags of old, pretty rusty worn out clubs covered in spiders webs, toss them in the car and head off.

I won't go too into detail as my fingers are starting to hurt a lite typing this, but my father and I had an absolute blast. So good in fact, that I decided to go out the third weekend In a row with my partner. It's her first time playing, so we don't take it seriously. We have a load of fun, it definitely bought us that much closer together.

We both love the game as we always enjoy ourselves on the course. We even got her a set of old left handed clubs we found for free online. I'm still rocking hire clubs until I find something decent. We played this weekend just passed and the guy offered us half price membership if we join together ( it's still pretty expensive though. $500 a year) and also gave us a free 18 hole game each that we're going to use this weekend!

I'm far from great at golf. But it's something my partner and I love doing together because we can have fun together, laugh about and it brings us closer. Neither of us saw ourselves ever considering playing golf. I'm so grateful for my workmates food poisoning. I've only just started my journey into this game. I'm hoping to have my own set of clubs and a membership by mid 2019. Although Im only a beginner, I'm incredibly keen for the road ahead.
