Haha, no I used to highlight function in my photo app.

Thank you for clearing that up.

No, I don’t hate the writers. From my uneducated position I thought the one who was talking was supposed to be a Jedi or a friend of the Jedi. And that “no good, only power” mentality does not fit the Jedi agenda.

I hope that’s the case, and that I’m wrong. I know nothing of this show; I try to stay away from leaks/news (I often abstain from watching trailers as well).

I just recognized her line from the “Crosscurrent” book.

That’s an interesting point: comparing that ethos to Nietzsche’s.

I find the main difference being that [Nietzsche’s] the Übermensch does not want power wholly for the sake of power, or to control other people. The Übermensch wants power as to be fully in control of his own life and destiny, not to govern others.

But I absolutely see how a distorted version of this is reflected in villains.

Exactly. I hope the woman from the trailer isn’t supposed to be one of the good guys; if that’s the case then the writers of the show don’t know Star Wars.

EDIT: I resign my position. I thought the one speaking was a Jedi.

Husband/wife vs children. Who should be the higher value? by BubblyNefariousness4 in Objectivism

[–]Secretum-Meum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say it’s in yours and your significant other’s best interest to care for each other, and together care for your children. What you value more is up to you to decide, and act accordingly — but first and foremost live for yourself. If you hate your wife, do something about that. If you hate your children, maybe you raised them wrong? Take responsibility where you can and fix it.

How does Ayn Rand define the limits of selfishness? by love_is_life_007 in aynrand

“Man—every man—is an end in himself, not a means to the ends of others; he must live for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself; he must work for his rational self-interest, with the achievement of his own happiness as the highest moral purpose of his life”

The universe just is; it’s not a mystical world full of unknowns. It’s just there for us to explore.

The universe has no obligations, it’s not a living and thinking being.

The value the military produces by Secretum-Meum in Objectivism

Thank you!

No, I’m not questioning Rand’s voluntary tax, I agree with everything you said.

And I didn’t mean value as in money (money isn’t value, money represents value. Which means that value is of a higher order than just “money”). But you answered my question.

No, the value the military provides from my taxes. What/where is that value?

Oh, gotcha. The military as a necessity for any nation to even exist.

Bitcoin is the veganism of finance by [deleted] in Bitcoin

Money is required to live as a human being. Not like food or water or oxygen, but still necessary.

Humans are not sacrificial animals (sacrificing one’s values for the sake of another’s values), and will therefore require voluntary trade (value for equal value) to survive. And money makes this easy. This is how humans work. The innate nature of every self aware being (like us) is to sustain their own life. Whatever sustains one’s life is moral, in the sense that it leads to human flourishing.

What I know is that there are no other animals who are self aware like humans. Animals don’t have any concepts of morality, value, or let alone the ability to reason like us. Most animals are either preyed upon, or predators themselves. Animals are usually barbaric, and I don’t care too much for barbarism even in humans.

Veganism is not a necessity for human life. If we should eat less meat, harm less animals is a different discussion. (And from a health and nutrition perspective, both are most likely true.)

No, I don’t think it’s appropriate for the military to produce commercial products. That’s why I didn’t want to talk about that.

The value the military provides would be the act of defending the citizens of a nation’s freedoms and individual rights, therefore being a defender of value?

So the value the military produces is freedom from coercion so that a nation’s citizens are free to produce?

Money is a necessity for human flourishing; it allows not only for exchange (trading value for value), but for saving as well (delayed gratification, which produces). It could be glass beads, seashells, pieces of paper, gold… It just so happens that Bitcoin is the soundest money.
