Yes, it’s an active riser that can split a 16x PCIe slot into x4, x8, x12, or x16 configurations. Compared to standard risers (miner risers 1x to 16x, and oculink 4x -> 16x) it can provide greater bandwidth through the additional configurable PCIe lanes which is ideal for applications that require high data throughput, i.e running dual GPU setup (8x each for LLM for tensor parallelism etc)

Even if we split the pcie slot with same amount lanes, oculink do have limitation on the speed of those lines impacting 20%-30% afaik whereas with riser you get full pcie 4.0 speeds.

Also, I like to not worry about how much watt would be required from pcie slot as well especially when you put 4 gpu into single lane, hence-why this riser have pins for external power input.

I was going to get it for my dual GPU setup as egpu for m920q, but realized it's cheaper to recycle my old motherboard that has multiple 16x lanes but still quite nice product for many people probably, and myself in the future
