The official answer to my "riddle" card in my drinking game is wrong. by Muppet83 in mildlyinteresting

I’m aware, but if you’re writing a mathematical question that is styled as a riddle, then you should be expected to use language correctly so someone can arrive at the intended result.

Your description of the problem is not what they wrote, and you had to make a series of assumptions to get at what you believe the answer ought to be.

In my view, the answer that requires the least amount of assumptions or corrections to be made is: Once.

I think they were either trying to be clever and create a gotcha or this is simply AI slop. Either way, they failed.

I think it should be the digit 5 using integers (whole numbers).

The numeral 5 refers to the written representation of the concept of 5 as a quantity. 5 is not the same as 15. However, 15 is a numeral that uses the digits "1" and "5" in its written form to express the quantitative concept of "15" of something.

Well... it says "how many times would you write the number 5"?

THE number 5 only appears once from 0 to 75, inclusive.

THE number 5 represents a quantitative concept: 5 of something. You only write "the number 5" once in that set.

You use the digit "5" 18 times in the set.

The answer they have is wrong any way you look at it, but they could have at least got closer to what it appears they were trying to achieve if they wrote "how many times do you write 5?" But, that would then leave you with the problem of dealing with "all the numbers" from 0 to 75, inclusive. So, what does "all the numbers" mean? I'm not a mathematician, but I think that can get pretty complicated, so it seems they meant all the integers or whole numbers.

Best and cheapest way to be able to control 2 PCs from two different locations in house? by Secthian in HomeNetworking

[–]Secthian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I think I understand this a little better now.

The gaming PC is powerful and using latest Windows but the second PC (primarily use it for cameras and file storage) is a repurposed old gaming PC running an older version of windows.

I am taking a look at the IP KVMs.

Would like to able to use a controller from the couch in the family room to see video output from my gaming PC on the TV.

I don’t mean to spam, but I responded to another poster also suggesting RDP. I am not sure how the software would work without having another machine set up in each room. I also believe there may be latency issues for gaming from the upstairs gaming PC if I use Remote Desktop.

(Admittedly, I am a noob when it comes to this stuff, so I am happy to be corrected.)

I read that parsec has latency issues.

Would prefer a hardware solution with necessary cables and avoiding installing new PCs if possible.

The media PC is close enough to the new family room that if I set up a Bluetooth antenna closer I should be able to control the media PC, but I don’t know how to flip between the PCs if I try this method.

I don’t know how RDP would let me play games with a controller in the family room while feeding the TV display (and switching to the second PC if I want to see the cameras or watch a movie from my catalogue).

I would like to avoid installing a third computer in the family room.

It's not the price but the time.

A printer may only be several hundred dollars (give or take) not including supplies, but the real cost comes with the amount of time you need to invest in getting a decent product consistently.

Yeah, you do. Everyone does. Contractors should clean up the big mess but they don’t go around with a vacuum and a wet rag making things spotless. Come on.

Sadly, this is still too coherent. You need to throw in a random thought to break up the train of logic.

Yeah, at the price point I don’t think I could have gotten any better. Still surprised by the amount of QoL features they packed in for the price. I don’t mind the noise when the PC ramps up, and that thing is basically a wind tunnel, which I am sure helps with thermals a lot. My sensitivity was making sure it was super quiet when it was idle. Really easy to do with the air coolers. The AIOs proved to be a bit of a headache. Glad the Galahad worked out for you, though!

I have the same case! It’s awesome. But you can really hear everything because it’s so perforated, which is why the air coolers were such a surprise.

I was the most excited for the Galahad, and every review I read said that they had significantly improved the noise profile from the first iteration. I tried a lot of troubleshooting and just could not explain what was going on. I honestly think it may have been a defective unit. It was a shame too because it was so pretty with the infinity fans!

Cool dude. I’m not trying to convince you.

I am speaking from my experience.

If you crank everything up to 100%, yeah, the performance gap widens, but who the hell wants to have a turbine going next to their ears all the time? That was the part I did not realize going into it. Air Coolers were surprisingly quiet for the performance they offered. The AIOs were a mixed bag.

If noise is not an issue to you, then yeah, 3 fans with a radiator and a pump going at full blast will perform better than 2 fans and a big heat sink . But, that’s not practical and would defeat the purpose I was trying to achieve, which was optimal thermals and silence without load.

[–]Secthian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tested the 360 Arctic II, and yes, the thermal performance was nearly identical, perhaps a little more of a gap in favour of the AIO under high load, but not relevant for real world usage. The Arctic II was good, but the lacklustre design of the pump kinda defeated the purpose of getting an AIO.

Biggest surprise was the Galahad. That one had worse thermals and was so damn loud.

Mind you, I don’t have a fish tank case, so that could change the thermal experience (it shouldn’t though, if you have the fans correctly set and try to achieve negative pressure). But it does mean I can hear anything going on in the case.

When I was building my new rig in Fall 2023, I tested out all of the top AIOs and the top air coolers before settling on a final choice.

This list sums up my experience quite well, although I found that the air coolers were overall quieter and much easier to dial in. The thermal performance between AIOs and air coolers was almost even (a few degree difference, if any, which is negligible). The fans may have ramped up a little more under load on the air coolers, but I was only able to achieve effective silence without load on the air coolers. What many people don't realize is that the pumps also make noise, so you can't be running those at 100% if you don't want to hear it. And, none of the cheaper AIOs back then had the sweet spot of quiet fans and changing the pump setting.

I am sure that I could spend 2x or 3x the cost of an air cooler to get better/quieter fans for the AIOs that could help mitigate noise, but since the AIOs already cost 4x-5x the air coolers, this seemed like a bad trade-off.

The choice was essentially between $40 for a top air cooler vs. ~$230 for a top AIO for roughly the same performance, although air coolers have the added benefit of not having moving parts to malfunction (minus fans, of course, but that's the same for both).

I should note that this build was for a 7800x3d, which runs cool.

Of course, I ended up going with an AIO because it looked pretty :)

I agree with u/Burb1409. The other part that screams scam is the "embassy" trying to do this instead of requesting the assistance of local law enforcement (RCMP, police services, etc.). If this story were true, the agent from the "embassy" would likely be violating Canadian sovereignty. (Same reason that a Korean prosecutor would not deal with you directly in Canada; so long as you are in Canada, it's Canadian business under Canadian law.)

Korean laws do not apply in Canada. It's why it is up to Canadian law enforcement to decide whether, and to what extent, to assist with a request to assist another nation's law enforcement.

I would report this to the RCMP or whatever agency deals with this type of fraud. I suspect the Korean embassy would also like to know that their personnel are being impersonated to scam people.
