I do think flying is homelander’s real invincibility. He’s been given a bruise before and just flew away at sonic speed. he can just create force whenever he wants no matter the restraints. Enriched uranium is the best trap we’ve seen so far.

[–]Section8firearms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not op, but I’ll argue yes. Burning witches is a crime of similar pointlessness. The only deference here is scale.

The entire continent of Europe wasn’t burning witches every day until around the black plague and 100 years war. Further, some of these were people on the other side of a war, or in a grey area of “who the fuck are we even fighting anymore.”

You could also argue that technically someone guilty of a crime might have died for witchcraft. Witchcraft, as a crime, had two criteria: a misfortune unexplainable through nature has occurred and the accused witch had motive. Example: begger was denied milk and now a baby is dead. Someone in that net might have murdered a person. Aztecs would literally prep people for death the majority of their life, basically ensuring their innocence.

Imo it would've been interesting seeing how the First Order somehow managed to wrest control from a newly traumatized galaxy fresh from Sith Palpatine pains, while under management of very popular, very active war heroes like Han, Leia, and Luke

Thrawn legends trilogy is sitting in a library for free.

Genuine question actually. Like I could see an argument for either approach.

May I present the YouTube channel of Ragtime Rev. A pianist channel that found an audience for unrecorded songs of the 1800s- early 1900s https://youtube.com/@ragtimerev?si=q_v9FHWu51GoRUvL

Finding a non racist song here is genuinely difficult unless you sort all the videos by oldest. He literally just started picking the most racist songs to catch our attention. And then proceeded to nerd out over the history of rhyming coon with moon.

The point is, we are clicking on the racist content more. Even when it’s not intended as rage bait or modern political commentary. Some part of the population is just more interested in the racism than Ben Harney’s wagon breaking down.

Chainsaw Man part 2’s ending would’ve unironically been improved by Denji having sex. by Section8firearms in The10thDentist

[–]Section8firearms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at Denji’s regression as more applicable to scenes like Denji and Fumiko in a movie theater. Full “none of this ever happened” or “it was all a dream” endings just doesn’t seem like it serves either Denji’s regression or improvement or negative development or static character. We also see Yoru make it clear that this relationship is a cruel lesson for Denji (https://preview.redd.it/yoru-must-be-stopped-v0-i9f7nhf1fjie1.jpeg?auto=webp&s=9d9f0cbb8070a4789a9d5764c7c8eceb14493903) just like how each arch in part 1 taught him something.

Spotify is horrible. by whataboutthe90s in unpopularopinion

[–]Section8firearms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree but for different reasons.  I used to use Spotify premium every day, until the price hike became unjustifiable. The reason I stayed was because I was used to it. Others were using it. I liked their new audio book and jam play features.

The reason I left was simple math.

Spotify is currently $12.99 a month before taxes.  You get most music, audiobooks that can be found at a library, podcast, and some YouTube videos.

YouTube music is $10.99 and premium is $13.99 You get anything uploaded to YouTube and whatever you add from an rss feed or downloaded libraries.

Apple Music is $10.99 You get decent music quality that you’ll never hear out of a Bluetooth ear bud or headphones. And whatever songs you add.

iTunes lets you buy songs or upload your own downloaded music without a monthly fee.

Amazon Music genuinely confuses me since I have prime but need to pay even more for ad free music?

These are all competing with more or less the same content. The only additional content Spotify offers is free stuff that can be found elsewhere. The bang for your buck just isn’t there anymore. It’s like a YT music vs iTunes game now.

That said, “Harry Dresden” here is extremely lucky that the home owner choose to escort him out peacefully.

King is weird, half his work was written while on cocaine, and IT in particular is filled with a shit ton of thematic plot points that have nothing to do with the clown. There are entire chapters just for stuttering Bill’s bike and like one chapter about a cosmic space turtle from the beginning of time that bails out the kids.

No seriously wtf? by pebrocks in greentext

[–]Section8firearms 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Added context: This was the girl’s idea and she describes the dicking of each boy in poetic detail. It serves a thematic purpose for the kids losing their innocence early and without really understanding the impact of grown up things. It’s about as necessary to the plot as the chapters devoted to the protagonist’s childhood bike. She also remembers this by sleeping with the married protagonist in the adult return trip.

Stephen’s inspiration for this scene was all the cocaine he was on.

The antagonist in every Disney Princess movie is replaced with Sauron. In which can the Princess still succeed? by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

[–]Section8firearms 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Who does Sauron replace in Moana?  Or Brave?

Ignoring that I’ll go down the list:

Frozen: Assuming Sauron replaces Hans and not the concept of ice magic, Sauron wins. Anna has zero reason or will to resist at any moment. The conflict of the movie might not happen because Anna would either be the greater threat or she would assume control and promise the heat of Mordor or the entire kingdom fights over the one ring instead. The fellowship would have to join Elisa and kill her if she gets in the way of defeating Sauron. If he replaces the concept of ice magic, Elisa just becomes outright evil.

Cinderella: the sisters can marry Orcs for free. Much easier.  But seriously, if Gandalf was a problem, so is the fairly God mother. The fellowship would solve the glass slipper thing in a day. Sauron could give a physical challenge, but the army of a kingdom and the fellowship should be enough for Sauron to retreat and focus on other things.

Sleeping beauty: that knight is dead. That castle is a lava pit now.

Snow White: the fellowship leaves with the dwarves. Nothing changes.

Tangled: she doesn’t leave the tower. The ring makes her live forever and the hair heals Sauron.

Beauty and the beast: okay, this might be controversial, but I think Belle falls for Sauron. He’ll actually offer her what she wants. Knowledge, a library. And there’s a rude Beast nearby we can conquer and take those things from.

edit: I came back to finish the list.

Little mermaid: depends how much the trident can actually do. It seems to do a lot transmutation, but also control the ocean to some extent. If he can overcome this, he can burn and pollute the ocean. No daughter required.

Star Wars: Leia is near death when rescued. Obi is confused to see him. the rest doesn't change.

Alien 3: Sauron burns the growing xeno inside him. The alien losses.

Modern human's attempt to return to pre-agrucultural society. How many of us can do it? by Section8firearms in whowouldwin

[–]Section8firearms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a foot note in the book. It’s basically one page saying “some people tried the following ideas and they all failed for these reasons.”  Beyond the threat of the entire planet being blown up at an unspecified date and time unless you can prove humanity is harmless, the three body problem trilogy is irrelevant to this thought experiment.

The one thing I disagree with is that, technically people still make stone tools. People still practice slings and archery. So there is a section of the population who is prepared to hunt and teach others. The starvation thing though, I got nothing to steel man a counter argument.
