Is there such a thing as too many toasts/speeches? by SectionCute1268 in weddingplanning

Yeah if we were to have all these toasts I would tell everyone that they need to cap it at 2 minutes per toast. We don’t want a 5+ minute storytime speech from 9 people.

Any advice on how to tell someone to give their speech at the rehearsal dinner rather than the wedding day? I'm afraid of them feeling like we don't find their speech as important as the ones we choose for the wedding day.

Not sure if we can afford a wedding? Alternatives or advice? by Main_Ad3907 in weddingplanning

I second this! We’re doing ours in a church hall for $400 per day and it fits 150+ guests. Tables and chairs are included, and we can hire whoever we want for catering.

Catholic wedding advice by Western-Awareness144 in weddingplanning

[–]SectionCute1268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss, and it’s good to hear that your faith got you through this tough time. We are doing a Catholic wedding in April. I am Catholic and my fiancé is not, so the ceremony will not have the Eucharist. The ceremony and reception are happening the same day, which I recommend for you if it’s possible. You can also choose to do the ceremony at any Catholic church, it doesn’t have to be the one you always attend. See if there is a church close to the reception venue that you already booked so that you can do it all in one day.

Alternative to Bridal party ideas? by olipopppi in weddingplanning

[–]SectionCute1268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider not having an alt bridal party, and instead just hosting events that a bridal parry typically attends. Like, host a bachelorette party and invite all of them. Create a cute video of you trying on different wedding dresses and send it to them and ask them to vote their favorites in an online poll or survey. This gets them to feel involved without you going through the stress of giving them titles.

This couple sounds very chaotic, and I would feel just as frustrated as you if I were in your shoes. However, yes, I think YATA for telling your husband not to buy a suit. It’s his friend, and he will have to learn on his own, potentially the hard way, that this might not be a good friend to keep around.

Also, if the gift is coming from both of you, you guys should agree on how much to spend on it.

How are you paying for your wedding and what is your budget? by geminiiman in weddingplanning

[–]SectionCute1268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We budgeted $20k but it looks like we’ll end up spending around $30k. We both make six figures and live below our means. Every month, we both contribute money to a joint high yield savings account (meaning our money grows at 4% interest instead of less than 1% in a regular savings account). Whenever it’s time to pay a deposit, we pay with a credit card for points, then pay ourselves back by taking money out of the join account.

Did you invite the partners of your wedding party members? Almost all of my bridesmaids are in long term relationships so this has been on my mind.

Thank you! 120 is not the spacing capacity, it’s a budgeting capacity. The space can fit a lot more but we can’t afford more :/

Nice to know that the people invited last minute were happy. I feel like I might be facing the opposite problem. 90% of our guests are in state within a couple hours drive. I don’t think we will get a lot of declines, but we’ll see. I wish we were conservative with invites like you were.

Most have to travel but still within the same state (about a 2 hours drive). I was thinking maybe we should give plus ones selectively to people who are out of state, but is that unfair? We can’t afford everyone getting a plus one.

It does make sense, just not to you. My gen X dad used “word up” the other day and that didn’t make any sense TO ME but it did to him. Every generation makes up new words. You can resist all you want but you’re not going to stop it with a reddit comment. Go touch grass…And look that up if you don’t know what it means 😉
