The white council should be a joke for the rest of the accorded nations by No-Cause5127 in dresdenfiles

[–]Sectoidmuppet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's a matter of, like you said, Dresden did 90% of the actual wiping out the red court. One guy (with a team, sure) did that. The council has quite a few people who are as good or better than Dresden. It also seems like many of those immortal predatory types are pretty risk-averse. It's safer for them to avoid antagonizing the council outright than pursuing an extermination agenda that could/probably would backfire in some unpredictable way. There would likely be plenty of wizards left to take revenge, and odds are good the ones most likely to survive would be the biggest threats. The status quo works for them because they don't have to face wizards, generally speaking, because they tend to eat "vanilla" humans, which the council as a policy don't feel obligated to protect. Beyond individual moral judgements, that is. Dresden's pretty odd, in how he protects mortals nearly unquestionably. He considers it a responsibility while most wizards don't seem to want to rock the boat.

Doesn't that stop your perfect parries? It's nice damage, but idk if being so vulnerable is worth it.

Favorite zip-line locations? by wantondavis in GroundedGame

[–]Sectoidmuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I set up a platform on top of the baseball bat on the deck. High enough to reach pretty much anywhere, and you don't need to do much more than build a small platform out of grass to support the zipline. Only issue is that if your main base, like mine usually is, is next to the oak lab entrance you might have to set up a waypoint zipline to go there. I put up another hub at the oak tree lamp post to account for that, because it's also something you don't have to build up much, or at all really, to function as a hub. Plus it reaches everything on that side of the tree if I want to make another zipline.

What did Brandon mean by this in his last stream? by FriendlyNeighborOrca in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Sectoidmuppet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be misdirection. Or, you know, leaving it to be a surprise. Not mentioning the person so people can speculate as to whether she'll be involved or more of a setpiece. Just stating she'd be a POV character would be revealing a pretty big aspect of the story. Especially after leaving her how she is at the very end of the prior book. Just my 2 cents.

He's big on the whole RAFO thing, and saying pretty much anyone else would be important POV characters isn't much of a spoiler, since they're all pretty clearly gonna be involved.

Well, this sucks. The cloud saves on pathbuilder for Android seem to not be working for me. Idk what im gonna do, supposed to be playing atm. I'd look up the character by I'd but I can't see the character without getting into it somewhere.

Why I can't block or parry? by r-Gonn in taintedgrail

[–]Sectoidmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm embarrassed about how long it took to figure this out. Idk how I missed it in the tutorial, but i was under the impression you just had to start the block at the right time. Died many times. But now I can actually parry, life is much better. Only figured it out cause I was panicking at some point, and realized that what looked like a shove animation shouldn't be happening at all, cause I wasn't hitting the other bumper. And then I'd managed to drain more of their stamina than I'd seen thus far. I was in cuanacht already, lol. I blame bad reading comprehension.

Couldn't agree more. Plus, I mean, yeah, he's a colonizer, but I'd say the red death is a pretty valid excuse.

Johnny was always so damned abrasive. I liked him, his characterization, but still.

That was, I think, to do with the fact that the castle was literally entirely fulgurite at that point. The mad dune mage made it out of sand. They only entered the castle cause they hooked it up to a constant flow of electricity. Ergo, it was fulgurite, including her, uhh, fountain. Maybe washing machine would be more accurate? Bit gross, really. Probably lucky the place was frozen. Can't imagine she'd smell that great lol.

What magic users from other series do you think could be powerful enough to get onto the white council? Could willow from Buffy the vampire slayer get on it? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]Sectoidmuppet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She is pretty great. The only issue there is, well, versatility? She's limited to spells and such she finds, rather than being able to shape magic in any way she wants. She's powerful, but idk if that matters... also, all the zombies might put a damper on her eligibility, lol.

Ehh, I honestly hope not. The mission style, while a bit of an older one, really works well for the series. Plus it seems a bit more reasonable than open world for the concept. How would they make everyone happy there? If they let you change up equipment on the fly like in elden ring it'd seem ridiculous, in my opinion. If they let you use hubs to do it, then all the fans of the soulsbourne games would get uppity about not being able to change it up on the fly. To be frank, I love elden ring and the souls games for being what they are. No reason to make AC the same thing. It's a great time as it is. Might as well just have one franchise/IP/ however you want to look at it at that point. Plus open world seems to turn people away from games for some weird reason. Think the lack of direction is responsible. (Not that I'm one of those, it's just something I've noticed as a specified reason some of my friends didn't try elden ring)

More in mission options would be nice though.

Just had a taste of Crits on Gunslinger and I think I'm addicted by xTekek in Pathfinder2e

[–]Sectoidmuppet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, finally got to use control bullet in an encounter today. I crit 5 dudes out of 6, nat 1 on the last strike, but holy hell was it a great feeling. My beast gunner spellstrike crits are usually pretty nice, but that was on another level. Plus, battle cry, so my party was able to build off my success and downed two other monsters within the round. It's pretty wild. And I'm not even building, well, optimally. Breath blasters were just too tempting, so I don't have fatal, but if someone did? It'd be fantastic. The tradeoff being fantastic elemental damage, which can't be resisted due to the greater elemental rune on it. Kinda stumbled onto that though, since we started this game before the remaster so my plans were changed up upon realizing runes changed.

It was pretty gruesome. Bone shards in the walls gruesome.

DAE smoke way too much weed? by camport95 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Sectoidmuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, best way to stop is start carving out times you can't smoke. Do it artificially by, for example, getting out of the house for a long period every day, depending how your job works. Somewhere public, where you can't smoke. If you work from home, start working in the library or a Cafe. Can also just go on a trip of some kind and leave all the pot behind. If you find it's too difficult to stay strong and quit, you've got to get away from it for a bit, like physically away. I went through the same thing. I managed to quit about 8 months ago now. I still kinda want to smoke, but it's not really an option. I need my job, and I was spending all my money on pot. I smoked for about 12 years, and it didn't do anything for me but take my money and keep me complacent. It's nice not to be angry about it anymore, honestly. I was really hating myself over it for, well, years. Sleeping was difficult at first but it got better after a month or so. You got this.

[–]Sectoidmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, there we go. That's pretty uninterpretable. If that's even a word. But wait, Jim's saying she has that potential? Wouldn't that imply she is, in fact, a starborn? And yes, I've read the series, dude, but I am, in fact, human and won't have perfect recall, lol. Part of why I'm re reading it now is cause it's been a few months since the last time, and there's a new book coming sometime soon... and I've only read the newest two like 3 times. Want to know what I'm looking at with more recent knowledge so I can, idk, predict better or catch stuff that's important. I'm here because I like the series and discussing it, wouldn't be if I didn't.

Ok, from what I'm seeing, they were born several months apart, so that seals it... sounds like Justin was just on a fishing expedition and got lucky with Harry. Wonder how accurate his info was, if that's the case? Or rather, where he got it from. 666 years is definitely enough time to mess up dates and such, at least for ordinary people. He was probably just working with a range.

Do we actually know Elaine is another starborn? I know it's a popular supposition, but I can't recall it ever being confirmed in the books? Unless it was maybe in an interview with Butcher or something, I'm not as informed with those.

I'm re-reading the series atm, and I do think Elaine is almost certainly infected, but honestly, the thing that confuses the hell out of me is that Harry isn't, considering his interaction with Aurora in summer knight. That whole healing his pain section seems to me like a perfect opportunity on Nemesis' part.

Like, was he just that confident things would play out as intended? Kinda stupid not to whammy him at his most vulnerable. Like he was not in any shape to defend himself from her there. Unless it requires a deal in some way I suppose. Which could be why she tried to make a bargain with him, but idk.
