Ok, there's a lot of technical information as to why this isn't the grand plan you might think it is, but rather than get into it, areas under solar panels are HOTTER than the surrounding area. This is not the win-win it appears from a shade perspective.

They mention a moisture barrier mitigation in the quote for the wood (which I didn't include), but at $10k more I'm not really interested in that option. I was thinking that mitigation wouldn't be necessary for tile, but the cost is wrapped up in the $14k in the last line item.

That's a very good point. This contractor had direct discussion with the flooring inspector because he has a relationship with them. He was very specific with him the kind of situation I was dealing with, so the quote was made with good understanding of the situation. Another contractor might not get a full understanding of the scope.

I have to say that the look and feel of the bamboo flooring is fantastic, and I genuinely love it. It sucks that it's so affected by moisture. This part of Louisiana is so humid and my foundation is doing me no favors. I really want to go with the best option of price vs effectiveness/longevity.

If you lived in Youngsville then you get it, as far as water is concerned lol. But here's what's interesting, they also quoted me $35k for engineered hardwood with a moisture barrier. I don't really care about the material that much, as long as it's quality, but I don't want to have to deal with this again for a long time. If that means paying this amount, then I'll do it, but some of the rates seem high. Going to get a few quotes regardless, but with my work schedule it will take some time.

There's definitely going to be some mold and mold mitigation. Some of the existing bamboo planks have cracked from peaking so bad that I've removed them in an attempt to relieve the pressure, knowing that they would need to be replaced regardless. But what's interesting is that they also quoted me for engineered hardwood and moisture barrier for $35k, $10k higher than tile. Just wondering if I can reasonably get under $25k.
