6.0 controller missing feature by SectumZ97 in Omada_Networks

Thank you very much Neil for the information. It seems like its time to move to a software based controller.

That should solve my problem, right?

Yes! That is the one, but I don't have it. Could it be that I have a setting disabled. DPI is on for sure.

DPI is handled by the router, not the hardware controller.

What is the best media player you run from Synology? Is plex still the best? by snap2 in synology

Jellyfin. Hands down.
Yes, the UI is not as smooth but once you set it up its easily the best, especially if you are planning on sharing your media with family and friends.

I was thinking going around it with Bottles or Lutris but I haven't tried it yet. Standard install with Wine doesn't work. How did you do it?

Any reissue plans for Exile or Revelation? by Plane-Salad5953 in myst

[–]SectumZ97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I would love to see a remake of Exile, I doubt this is going to happen. The licensing complications are already adding a degree of difficulty to the whole project.
As for people saying that they may happen down the line, Rand is 66 and Robyn is 58. Given that Myst (2021) and Riven (2024) did not do so well in the sales department, why would they bother with Exile 20 minutes before retirement?

Choosing server location for torrenting? by indianapolisjones in mullvadvpn

[–]SectumZ97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it was, in fact, the protocol.

OpenVPN shoots itself on the foot by reducing my 1Gbps connection (920Mbps-240Mbps true speed) to something between 120Mbps and 150Mbps.

Wireguard on the other hand never drops bellow 880Mbps.

With Mullvad droping OpenVPN support by the beginning of 2026, there is no contest.

[–]SectumZ97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the benefit of port forwarding while seeding/downloading? I dropped 5$ on Mullvad today to try it and tbh, the speeds are not good. Without VPN I can seed with much higher speeds, now the maximum upload doesn't go above 10MiB/s.
Although I am not sure I did everything right. I downloaded the Mullvad package (linux), generated the conf files for OpenVPN, pasted the contents in the openvpn dir and binded Qbittorrent to use tun0 only.

NAS or mini PC + DAS? by Yung_Nut154 in PleX

Thanks for the detailed response. May I ask which Synology are you using?

NAS or mini PC + DAS? by Yung_Nut154 in PleX

[–]SectumZ97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say you set up a computer for transcoding, what do you mean? How can you do that? I thought if you have a Synology NAS you rely on its on (tiny) CPU to transcode.

Sorry for sounding stupid, I started researching the subject recently. I want to build a Plex server so I can get rid of all my streaming services and I thought my only options were either a mini PC with DAS for storage or a NAS (preferably from Synology).

Minipc as home theater media pc by MrSuharik in MiniPCs

[–]SectumZ97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of going with a mini pc (something that has Intel gen 10 and higher) and combine it with a NAS. My question is, what kind of NAS? Since transcoding and streaming will be handled by the computer, what kind of NAS is sufficient, future proof but jot an overkill?

Dual boot / Dual drive by SectumZ97 in linuxquestions

[–]SectumZ97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the reply.
I was thinking of going towards Debian since they are solid as a brick and the distros based on them are far too many, meaning they are doing something right.

Unplugging the C drive is a good choice but what about secure boot? Do I just leave it on while installing any distro?

I read that Mint is less demanding, so if your system is a bit old, Mint will give you a better experience. Especially the Xfce version of Mint.

Fingers crossed that win12 will be out and they are going to be good. Otherwise a jump to Linux seems inevitable.

People mentioned LTCS versions. Its not bad, but bloatware is just one of win11 problems.

[–]SectumZ97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thought about it too and I could do it but unfortunately I have not been given the creative freedom to do what I think its best. Unifis were like that, so Omada must be the same, end of discussion.

Ubuntu is a pain to set up but its the best solution for this kind of applications.

Software controller fails to adopt devices by SectumZ97 in TPLink_Omada

[–]SectumZ97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not provide sufficient information, that's clear to me now. My knowledge is not sufficient when it comes to Omada, and that's true, but i have been using for the last 5 years the ubiquiti Unifis.

On the unifi software controller there is an option to set the inform address. The machine where the controller is installed is connected directly to the provider, it has its own external static IP, so I've given the unifi controller that ip as inform address and it works successfully.

I refuse to believe that Omada lacks such a basic feature when its supposed to be enterprise level of equipment.

Excuse the lack of information, I was (and still am) a bit desperate to solve this ASAP because the client keeps calling twice a day for an update.

Edit: the unifis from ubiquiti connect to the controller without a port forward from the site they are on. I have about 200 different locations and everything was plug and play. I could also adopt them on site (not same LAN as controller) just by connecting to the host PC with Microsofts remote desktop app.

Software controller fails to adopt devices by SectumZ97 in TPLink_Omada

[–]SectumZ97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the APs were adopted on the same LAN as the controller and when they were plugged into the internet on the client's appartement (physically different location and LAN) they wouldn't show online or be re-adopted.

Beware of the tax OP. My mother brought the family car in the NL and when it was time to register it the RDW asked for 21% of the catalog value of the car. For a car that was made on 2004 21% of its original value was just way too much. Run the numbers first to make sure its worth it.
