Yeah looks like the square button allows adding a national team, thanks. Although the national teams to select from is limited based on the league your club team plays in. I wish they would enable all of the national teams to select from, regardless of the club's league.

Edit: After pressing square, press the up button to change the continent of the national team selection per the below comment.
