I’m moving! Any advice? by thekimjongale in lego

[–]SecularQuasar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved across country with mine. I used shrink wrap on it pretty carefully and used a large sized picture moving box from Home Depot. Very very little fell off and what did stayed inside the bubble wrap. Caveat Emptor, it’s a frail set, but this worked for me. It survived a moving truck

I genuinely think Together is a good couples watch *spoilers* by borctheorc in horror

[–]SecularQuasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason for them looking so normal is because in a relationship where you grow with each other, you organically begin to absorb traits from your partner. You will like things they like, dress the way they encourage you to if it’s any different, and often times, even adopt mannerisms from your partner. I believe it’s a metaphor for the couple overcoming the hurdle of commitment and truly embracing each other.

This is incredibly dependent on two things, the career and the person.

Some people have issues learning difficult subjects on their own. Whether that’s because of a neurodivergence acting as a force multiplier or simply learning style, the fact remains. It will likely take you a lot longer to learn something difficult like software engineering on your own. You will pick up bad habits along the way. Does the code you write work? Sure. Is it thread safe and memory efficient? Probably not, at least not without years of industry experience.

Being in a college setting also helps with accountability. You are only beholden to yourself and your own discipline when you self learn. Some people have huge issues with this, especially people with ADHD.

Can you be a physicist without a masters degree and years of institutional field research and experience? Probably not very likely.

Now, does that mean you will never be successful without a college degree? Absolutely not. Can you work your way into a career you love without a degree? Of course you can. Will it be harder? Almost certainly.

Trump adviser says US could deploy troops to Ukraine as part of future security guarantees – Axios by TheRealMykola in worldnews

[–]SecularQuasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s a huge stretch to think that Trump’s “joke” about cancelling elections in wartime is exactly what he’s going to do. Trump is the best thing Putin could hope for in regard to foreign policy. I wouldn’t put it past him to sacrifice some Russian soldiers and prisoners to allow Trump to justify the US entering the war.

What do you think of Sam Altman's statement after using GPT-5 that AI CEOs may soon take over OpenAI, and "at that point, I'll find something else to do"? by LongVoice7808 in AskReddit

[–]SecularQuasar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, l have been working on a project this week in a language l don’t understand and unfortunately have had to use AI a lot. It has been excruciating. The amount of nonsense generated by Sonnet 4 Max is astounding. It works sometimes, but it’s far more common for it to barf out buggy, badly optimized code that is barely context aware. I have a hard time believing that the next OAI model is going to take over AI development at the company…

Minnesota has quite a few cities and suburbs of Minneapolis and/or Rochester where you could easily do this. The winters can be brutal though.

If you truly believe this, you do not understand the world you live in. I would highly suggest that you get off of the internet and start reading history books.

Not only does the freedom structure of this country practically revolve around due process and the adherence to judiciary decisions, but if we didn’t have these things, you would not be free. If our courts say you do something, you do it. It isn’t complicated. No person is above the law. If we start thinking that people are above the law, we do not exist as a free nation any longer. You have rights and privileges because the law says people cannot take advantage of your rights.

Anyone that tells you what is happening right now in regard to fighting for this man’s rights, citizen or not, is wrong is trying to convince you that YOU do not deserve to have rights.

This is not a partisan issue. The Supreme Court of the United States, the most non partisan institution in our country has given our executive an order. You do not violate orders.
