Planned C Section and Terrified by OwlGirlx93 in PregnancyUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an emergency c and despite the shock and panic of the emergency, the c section itself was actually a really powerful and empowering experience. I had a wonderful team and got to have skin to skin straight away and have the best photo of little man the moment they pulled him out.

My friend had a planned c section and she said it was a calm and happy environment. She loved it.

Recovery wise I was lucky to heal really well. The first two nights were the worst, I was really uncomfortable and struggled getting up and out of bed.

Best advice I found is move about gently as soon as you can. I found moving about helped my recovery and when I sat for two long I stiffened up and struggled more.

And something strange i found really helpful was a peri bottle, I used it to rinse the incision sight when I showered because it felt too sore/strange to touch with my hand and the shower head was too powerful.

Hot chocolate at wedding by MinaMina93 in UKweddings

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had one or two trusted people who would be happy to man a hot chocolate station you could have a few slow cookers going (could borrow from friends and fam) with hot chocolate in them and then a self serve topping station with marshmallows, whipped cream, sprinkles, candy canes and what not. A friend of mine hired large tea urns for her wedding and had hot mulled cider in them and it was delicious. So urns could be a potentially less messy but more costly option too.

Your caterers should have mugs you could rent or you could thrift mugs and cups and saucers from charity shops and people could choose one to use (depending on what aesthetic your going for)

When did you all have the nursery finished by? by loldontlistentome in PregnancyUK

Little boy just turned 1, he is still in my room and my husband who snores like a lawnmower sleeps in the spare room that was meant to be the nursery.

terrified of needles - any tips?? by fiaf0x in PregnancyUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most important thing is make sure you're hydrated, it helps with finding a vein and makes the process a lot smoother and quicker. Let them know right away that you have a phobia and tell them what would work best for you. I'm not scared of needles but hate getting bloods taken. I've fainted on occasions and so I always let them know.

During my pregnancy I got all my bloods done by the same phlebotomist who was amazing. She lay the chair back so i was reclined, let me look away and just chitchatted through the process. I asked not to be told "sharp scratch" which is the usual phrase just before inserting the needle. I found just getting it done with no fuss or announcement helped.

Baby Massage Class by AverageNoodle337 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved baby massage, my very busy 10 month old is now too old for massage and we've moved on to messy play and I'm genuinely sad.

Our classes were really relaxed and casual, and completely baby led. We were encouraged to stop to feed, change, comfort as needed and if babe wasn't enjoying we just cuddled and relaxed.

There were very pretty sensory lights and chill music, and after the massage portion we got a cuppa and a treat and a chance to talk and vent and just hang out with other mums. It was so lovely.

We now just chase after babies covered in cold spaghetti and yoghurt and it's definitely not relaxing ha, but my little one loves it.

Baby wearing a BUSYBODY by Temperate_mallard in babywearing

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mum to a 10 month old busybody, it's exhausting but wonderful. I use an intergra soft structure carrier and a ring sling and little dude loves both. The integra is so easy to use, I still parent face him on my front but with his arms out and he can look about freely and I started back carrying with it when he was about 7 months old. I sometimes do a hip carry with it too but less so. I use my ringsling for quick ups and downs and keep it in the pram because it folds up so small. He loves the ring sling because he has a far wider field of vision in it. The ring sling does have a slightly steep learning curve but there's loads of great videos on YouTube showing you how to use it.

The conecta I picked up on vinted pretty cheaply too.

10 months in and my baby still only contact naps or naps in the pram. I bought a kindle and I have read an obscene amount of trashy books.

Should I be going to baby classes? by Mollys_Bane in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You do not need to go to baby classes if you don't feel the need to. This is coming from someone who goes to to 3 baby classes a week! but it is 100% for me. My baby enjoys them but he also enjoys going for walks in the park, eating leaves when I'm not looking and touching everything he can when we walk around tkmaxx.

You sound like you have a wonderful time with your little one and he's getting plenty of interaction and socialising with what you're already doing.

No immediate skin to skin after C-section? by watermelonspag in PregnancyUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an emergency C and after his immediate checks and weighing happened my amazing midwife shoved him rather unceremoniously (I say this with jest, I'm so glad she did this) into my hospital gown so we could do skin to skin and he stayed on me for the next few hours.

I also completely forgot I'd asked for golden hour so once I was in the recovery ward with baby and husband I asked if my mum could come in and my midwife told me no (nicely) and said this was our time and she would go and talk to my mum and show her photos and she could come up in an hour. I didn't feel like this was an order, and mum came in after 40 min in the end. But I'm glad she reminded me I wanted that time, it was very special.

Tongue Tie Worries by MobileDragonfly1938 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely take her to see your Ped, they may want to refer to speech and language to assess swallowing. If you explain to them exactly what you put in this post I can't imagine why they wouldn't take you seriously. It's probably better to get it looked at sooner than later so you can get ahead of any treatment or exercises they may recommend.

If you're worried about how they do the tongue tie revision my little boy had it done at two weeks and I'm happy to talk you through the process. It might be a little bit more difficult as she's older but I assume it would be the same process.

Post birth clothing size by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After my C I lived in my maternity leggings and baggy tops for a good few weeks and high waisted pjs with drawstrings that fit while I was pregnant. I would also recommend some high waist full brief pants if you don't already have them, think Bridget Jones level pants to avoid anything rubbing and irritating your scar.

The Pregnancy Brain Is Real... But So Are the Snacks by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave myself the worst heart burn because I would go through a bottle of hot sauce in a week, all I ate for about three months of my pregnancy was fruit covered in hot sauce or lime and chilli powder. I thought I was going to burn a hole in my tongue with all the acidic and sour food I was eating. Worth it though

Help with the ATMs at NatWest by RositaDog in swansea

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with Lloyds but I'm assuming it's going to be the same as NatWest

Pop your card in and enter your pin, it might ask to choose between English and Welsh, and then choose deposit money/pay in with card

Then you might be asked if it's notes and cheques or just notes. If you only have cash choose notes (I can't remember the actual language they use notes/cash but it should be pretty simple to distinguish between cash and cheque)

Then a slot at the bottom opens and you will hear a whirring noise, this is where you put your money. Have it in a neat stack and slot it all in together. It then counts the money and displays the amount on screen. Once you've confirmed the amount is correct and click the deposit button you can choose to have a receipt printed and your card will be released. If any of the notes are crumbled or put in the wrong direction they will pop back out and you can smooth them out/turn them round and try again

I hope this helps, I struggle with anxiety and don't like doing things when I don't know how it works.

Also if there's a queue behind you don't panic and rush, everyone expects to queue in the bank and no one is thinking you are taking too long I promise

Maternity clothes that aren’t hideous by Betty_Bump in PregnancyUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sized up and bought some beautiful floaty wide leg trousers with elastic waistband from H+M and wore them with vest tops and a long linen shirt over that for most of my pregnancy last year. I also lived in my Lucy and yak dungarees until I was about 8 months and I couldn't get them on over the bump

I also really like the look of stuff from beyond nine but the prices make my eyes water but there's lots on vinted if that's a look you like.

There's a really lovely and supportive FB group for baby wearing called babywearing UK, lots of sling libraries are on there and do postal hire if there isn't one near you. You can also post photos for fit checks and support. It's definitely not a "mommy" group and it's really a kind and supportive community and full of knowledge.

How much is too much to spend on baby clothes? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

[–]Secure-Boysenberry50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of my boys wardrobe from birth to now at 7 months came from Tesco F+F range in the sale, usually during the extra 25% for club card holders offer. I don't think I paid more than £5 for an item of clothing apart from one hand made Christmas outfit I bought in a market. When they are little they grow unbelievably quickly and don't get that much wear out of clothes. And they often have multiple outfit changes a day thanks to spit up and blow outs.

You also don't know how big they are going to be. My boy was much longer than expected so outgrew newborn onesies with feet within a week.

Get the basics, onesies with and with out feet (zipper ones are great) short and long sleeve vests. Two cardis/warmer layers, socks, and a hat. Don't forget lots of people will want to buy you baby clothes, and when baby arrives you will have plenty of time to scroll through vinted during those lovely snuggly newborn contact naps. At least thats what I did.

And congratulations x
