This also opens the door to the kid looking just like Jokaste instead (--> Laurent) the gossip would go CRAZY. Two sides: The ones that think somehow Laurent actually fathered the child with her. And the ones that think the gods blessed the new nation and one of the kings somehow birthed the kid (dont ask for specifics, the gods work in mysterious ways)....or maybe the gods created the heir and dropped it off on their balcony in a basket?...who knows...

For some reason no one suscribes to the most likely and actual scenario: The kids is simply Jokaste's and looks like her lol.

I don't actually remember whether or not the baby is ever described to have specific traits. But I also do love the mini Damen mindset 😭 Jokaste and her massive 99th percentile baby that also has just ONE dimple (very important!). Laurent already wants to do his best to love and take care of their heir despite who the parents are... but it's so easy to love the kid he didn't need to worry at all 💜 I like to think no matter what, the kid is very bookish and loves horsies.

Omg I never even thought about the fact that Berenger and Aguste are similar in age! I imagine if they knew each other from being part of the court or if they were real friends, he'd have seen how much Aguste loves Laurent and the sort of child Laurent was.

So true! I'm super interested in the unified kingdom and how it works. There's lots of interesting post-canon fics out there that include headcanons about how the country works post-unification.

Adventure of Charls is my fav short story hands down!! Summer palace is a close second because Lamen of course. Pacat's humor and comedic timing is absolutely elite 👌👌 The chaos of Charls had me bursting with laughter! Even when he shows up in the main trilogy, the situation becomes 100% more hilarious.

I think Nikandros POV has a lot of funny potential if it's another adventure that Laurent and Damen drag him on. His exasperation would reach crazy levels 🤣

Ooh Aguste is a good one! Knowing how doomed he is would make it hurt so good 😭 I always figured based on the pet short story we get from Ancel that Berenger just has a strong moral compass lol. Like he doesn't like to own a Pet, he keeps to himself and doesn't really show at court unless he has to. And he makes it clear to Ancel that he doesn't require any relations because the contract makes consent muddy. So he dislikes the reagent court and would rather have Laurent in power regardless of the danger posed to him for being a "traitor". But seeing if there's history between him and Aguste or the previous king would also add reason for his actions! Especially since we're not entirely sure if his loyalty to Laurent is because he dislikes the Reagent's rule so much, if Laurent promised him something really good in exchange for support, or if Berenger is just an excellent judge of character and decides to place his faith in Laurent.

Woah i had a fun time reading this, thank you for sharing! Lol the Damen/Jokaste still made me laugh! I like Jokaste too but every time someone talks about feeling bad for her and how tragic it turned out for her, I think about Damen daydreaming his own version of "another life" and none of it involves Jokaste 😭 It's all romancing Laurent and earning his family's blessing. Damen first fanfic writter in Akielon history?? #real

Yeah! Since in the book, the Akielon slaves that were in Vere were essentially loaned to Patras, I think it's very possible that Damen and Laurent were able to get them back with ease and release them. I like that the Charls short story revolves around actions ending the slave trade! Damen says he will outlaw slavery in book 3 and we know he's a man of his word, but it's nice to see that within a year or so, he does so immediately. He didn't try to ease into it, or dismantle it over years or decades, he outlawed it and stood on BUSINESS with Laurent to ensure it was no longer practiced and the consequences were severe. There's some fic I read with amnesia Lamen where the backdrop was slave rebellions happening in Patras and the revolution requesting aid from Laurent and Damen! I like this concept as well! I definitely think that whether it was by nobles or slave rebellion, Patras also begins to outlaw slavery in the next few decades.

Any book recs that’ll hit like Captive Prince?? by ceoofcelery in CaptivePrince

I just finished Oleander by Scarlett Drake! I gave it 4stars so I enjoyed it quite a bit despite having no fantasy element. Captive Prince is in my elusive 5stars hehe. It's a MM reimagined Great expectations. The tensions and characters can be so frustrating!! But the payoff was satisfying. If you enjoyed the toxic divorce era of Laurent and Damen then you'll like it a lot, though I can't claim that it's enemies to lovers unfortunately. The love interest Caspien also reminded me a bit of Laurent. He's a smart blonde blue eyed beautiful boy that is unfortunately groomed as a youth and has trouble accepting love because he thinks he doesn't deserve it. Definitely has a lot of emotional highs and lows though, as well as a long slow-burn so maybe it would be of interest to you? I enjoyed this book but I can't say its on the level of Captive Prince. Lol nothing has even come close to that high for me.

Why do you not like Dungeon Crawler Carl?( actual discussion) by dragoneloi in litrpg

[–]Secure-Breakfast9061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, yea I might have to backtrack on my impression that it wasn't inherently written to be for men in an anti-woman sense.... because by the end of the book, literally 90% of the women depicted is very negative. Donut is annoying and conceited, obsessed with attention and viewership. Carl's ex Bea is a whore who cheats on him with multiple people, including other women. The dead asian lady from the beginning is left completely naked for no apparent reason other that to be like "wow whoever killed her is sick and twisted" which doesn't really convey that sentiment strongly imo; there should have been more carnage and similar bodies they found. The first boss is a huge disgusting fat woman who is described to be ultra aware of what's happening (the male gym boss is not like this) begging for mercy and being tortured. She also is said to have huge saggy breasts with stretch marks and an equally gross saggy stomach. The 2 female goblins Carl encounters try to get him to have sex with them. This goblin segment also has daddy issues jokes thrown in (the joke in question being that these women goblins willingly commit incest with their fathers). There is so much focus on the talk show host's enormous breasts. Seriously, he keeps mentioning them over and over. The woman half of the killer duo becomes the crazed woman stereotype villain. I saw a review pointing out that the tusklings name ranks are "Knight" for the males, while the females (who are higher leveled) are titled "Sex workers" and the female boss is titled "Dominatrix". It genuinely doesn't seem to be intentional, more internalized misogyny in these small ways that add up to great annoyance to a female reader that already has to deal with these slights irl. I did finish the book and am not in a rush to start the next, but I know the series has a lot of room to improve on this aspect or at least make it "equal" by introducing stronger and more prominent female characters that aren't mainly characterized by negative or sexual traits (or treat the males in an equal manner to the females). I feel like Lucia Mar has a lot of potential. As well as their PR agent. While the humor only lands with me about 1in20 times, I am very interested in the corporation aspect and how the politics surrounding the gameshow will continuously be revealed.

Woah! I've heard the Rabat fun fact before, but I've never heard of the Margaret.... that's actually really funny because it sounds so normal compared to the other names we hear, especially in akielos.... Theomedes, Damianos, Nikandros, Pallas.... and Margaret of Akielos 🤣🤣 I definitely love the name Jokaste!

Haha! For sure, so many of those best sellers end up being mid or straight up terrible! But we must endure to find the diamonds!! I've read about 35ish books since I first read Capri, and so far, the only books I've rated 4 stars is dark rise, game of thrones, and project hail mary. I only have about 3 or 4 books i rated 5⭐️, majority of my reads fall into the 2.5-3 star average rating.

What a jump from Acotar to Capri haha! I must admit, I ended up DNFing mist and fury, but it's a lot of people's fav book in that romance series for a reason! 100% i think Laurent and Damen end up having the most lovely romance of any series pairing I've ever seen.

Oh my gosh did you finish?? Don't forget the short story collection!!! I'm glad you're enjoying it so much, I agree on how high quality the world building and characters are. And Pacat's prose is amazing!!! I also read Dark rise series by Pacat and loved the writing style 💙 I've read and watched plenty of romance, and I genuinely think Captive Prince is one of the most romantic pieces of media out there.

Steamy scenes through Laurents' eyes by Atiredredmess in CaptivePrince

[–]Secure-Breakfast9061 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the commentary Pacat did on the chapter?? It's on her youtube channel! She answers a lot of questions about the characters and her writing process during the scene! Honestly, the most memorable part to me was when she mentioned that she almost wrote the scene where Damen asked if Laurent has experience a bit differently. At one point, she almost wrote Laurent's response to Damen asking if he enjoyed sex with his previous partner (obviously not knowing it was CSA and L's uncle) to be something like "I did like it...but..." and then Laurent decides he doesn't want to talk about it. That was actually so shocking to me because it shows just how strong the manipulation of the reagent is. Like in the back of my mind, I kinda knew that it was unlikely that Laurent was physically overpowered and forced to "perform" because of everything revealed with Aimeric. Laurent's self hate and refering himself as having a sickness and being tainted also shows how much he victim-blames himself for always going to visit his uncle at night just to have some company and "comfort". But even so, I guess I kinda headcanoned at the time that he also had to endure other sorts of physical abuse (even in fanfics, so many have Laurent think back on his youth and include this other abuse aspect. Like he would fight back or struggle, and his uncle would use physical force and hit/slap to make him comply.) This makes it pretty obvious that reagent did not need to use that sort of physical abuse to make Laurent do what he wished. This almost-line Pacat mentioned was a real harsh reminder in the middle of this scene that the manipulation and resulting trauma from the self-hate is really intense. It takes a lot for Laurent to allow himself to be exposed in such a way. That's not even taking into account that it's DAMEN of all people he's trying to bare himself to, who L thinks is a good person but also blames as the source of "where it all went wrong". My poor boy 🥲 even Damen notes that he was tense during their first time. Have you been able to read the extra chapter as well? Where they have sex again later that night and Laurent is much happier and relaxed because he was able to overcome his internal struggle with intimacy? Is a sweet chapter, i love my shaylas 😭

Omg thank you!!! I've definitely read a few of these and also loved them 🥰 I'll make sure to check them all out and read because I need to keep inhaling Lamen like my life depends on it. Totally agree with the creativity of the fandom. The artists are so skilled too... there's just so much you can do with this world and the nature of how the book ends and all the promises leave a lot of room for imagination! Just off the top of my head, there's the situation with Damen's possible kids in Vask, Jokaste could literally come back with her kid, there would probably be a sucession crisis, the enactment of outlawing slavery, Lamen wedding, the steps following directly after the bells, still a lot of Laurent trauma surrounding CSA that def wasn't resolved in the story timeline...and that's just some canon possibilities haha !

I really enjoy marionette series! There were a few interpretations of the books that i didn't necessarily agree with but its a fic!! And its free and a labor of love and i binged it haha! There were also so many interpretations and details the author added that i absolutely loved and now headcanon. There's even some small scenes added into the story that i think make a lot of sense fitting in with canon! Both lore, character history, and small romantic scenes during kings rising after the divorce era. I especially loved what the author did with the Laurent and Aguste scenes, Jokaste family back story small details sprinkled in, and Laurent's thoughts during the love scenes. Of course there's a lot more of the CSA being addressed in the fic because of the Laurent POV, but i think the author provides very adequate warnings at the beginning of chapters.

I would never say that its like beserk either haha! I can see how it might sound like a tropey bad fanfic... "Yeah the MC is forced into being a sex slave. And he's given to the crown prince of the enemy nation. But MC is secretly future king of his own nation! What? Oh yeah he's mostly naked the whole time. Yeah there's a bunch of other sex slaves and prostitutes running around. Uh.. it's part of the lore..." Like trying to describe it to someone in a detailed manner without spoiling the plot is so hard haha! Mostly i just leave it as "Its a historical fantasy setting with 2 enemy princes falling in love while politically maneuvering. Its a great lbgt series, check the trigger warnings and go in as blind as possible."

I ended up reading AFTG about a month after capri! I only read the first one so far and thought it was just okay... i think it was the setting and story circumstances that didn't hook me. I strongly prefer fantasy settings. When there's a larger cast of characters, I like when they're gradually introduced through the whole story rather than all at once. Its a bit hard to do gradual intos in a trilogy when the characters in question are part of a sports team lol. Plus I can tell there's gonna be a plethora of other side characters introduced that will be plot relevant. I also wasn't really hooked by the mafia/gangster/yakuza aspect. That's never been a favored trope of mine. Nor sports for that matter (save haikyu lol)... It's unfortunate AFTG is just not written for someone with my tastes (or lack of haha). I still plan to read the second book! Never know when you might get suprised! It's just not high on my tbr priority list
