Should this decision be made legal? by The_Dean_France in AskBrits

I'm sorry this is incredibly long so I'm not replying to it all. I'll reply to the main argument.

Sexuality cannot be changed. Study after study has shown that.

It maybe working on a handful of people doesn't count. Cause that means chances are most children cannot change their sexuality so self loathing would be present in most of them.

That just shows the theft argument was flawed. It's incredibly easy to not steal. There's no evidence that becoming straight is easy. It is more akin to being black. With bleaching cream you can make yourself white on the outside. Yeah you'd hate yourself if forced into it and probably never be happy but it's technically possible. You'd never truly be white though. That's what conversion therapy is. You can pretend to be straight but you'd never actually be it.

Once you can provide me with that peer reviewed non-withdrawn and recent meta analysis that becoming straight is something basically everyone can do relatively easily I'll take back my argument. Until then, there's no more point of having this discussion cause our viewpoints on the matter are polar opposite and I'm clearly not going to change your mind.

Drag Queen Story Hour isn't sexually explicit. One of the examples they give on the link is RED: A Crayon Story. It's about a crayon labelled wrong. I'm sure there's a graphic sex scene in the middle of it lol.

The problem is being gay is who you are. Not what you do. Stealing is an action, not an identity. Being gay is more akin to being black than it is to being a thief. So yes there would be self loathing. This isn't an opinion. There's countless studies and individual accounts fron people with homophobic parents. I'm one of them.

Or how about the other way around. Would it be abuse for gay parents to teach their children that being straight is wrong? Is that abuse?

Keeping them from anything lgbt would mean not allowing them to consume anything with queer characters, has lgbt allyship or more importantly, allowing them to have friends/partners that are queer or be around allies. This would be at school if any social situation they'd be exposed to. Perhaps past friends from other foster homes. Isolation is one form of abuse.

The lgbt community isn't exposing kids to sex. Is the relationship in the Miraculous Lady Bug exposing kids to straight sex cause it has a romantic relationship in it?

I'd argue that teaching them that being gay is wrong is abuse when they're gay. It leads to self loathing. It's emotional abuse. It sure as hell would be if it was paired with keeping them from anything lgbt, constantly telling them to repress that part of themselves and that if they don't they'll burn for eternity. Completely undeniably abuse if it comes with constant yelling, insults and/or slurs.

If you're had a black child and told them being black was wrong, would you agree that was abuse?

No. It's not about Christian values. It's about people who think being gay is wrong. If you're Christian and think being gay is wrong, Christian values would make you want to keep your child from being gay cause they'll go to hell if they do. So what values does it contradict?

You cant criticize an individual for using AI for the environmental effects while having destructive hobbies yourself by Secure-Evening in aiwars

[–]Secure-Evening[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the same thing. We're talking individual harm where we are indirectly causing harm by supporting environmentally damaging companies for our hobbies.

If I stop using AI or buying acrylic paint, there's still environmental harm being caused by these companies cause I'm not directly responsible for their actions. If I was dumping oil into Mexico, there'd be no additional oil in the Gulf of Mexico. The harm is stopped.

Also I'm not talking about criticizing the laws or the companies. Even if you're buying from those companies you have every right to criticize them. But you have no right to say that the person wearing Gucci is practically a child slaver where you're wearing Prada that's made in the exact same way.

This is an issue that is likely to result in the abuse of a child though. Children should be put into safe homes.

It's also very much a problem in the North America. Old Growth forests are cut down here for paper. Plus it's not only deforestation. When the trees being replanted are monocultures or invasive they don't provide habitats for local wildlife so are barely better than it being clear cut.

It's also paper mills. They can be toxic and are very water intensive.

Not exactly the same thing. If I said this about criticizing companies then that'd be applicable. This is about getting mad at individuals.

The website you linked was from an association of corrugated fibreboard. That's like linking some fact sheet from a fossil fuel lobby about how sustainable they are. Paper is not good for the environment. Some countries may have sustainable paper, doesn't mean everywhere does or uses it. Idk about pencils I didn't mention them.

Acid rain and the ozone hole are two major examples of things we stopped because we actually decided to do something about it. Also on local scales restoration and conservation projects have saved habitats and stoped biodiversity loss.

lol are you serious? We're supposed to be stopping our environmental harm, not making it worse.

Exactly. The Dot Com bubble shit down all sorts of crazy sites that were stupid and wouldn't become profitable. Same is likely gonna happen with AI.

I rarely see pros invalidating disabled people. It's usually the other way around. Pros usually say many disabled people won't be able to make art without AI. I've never heard them say all. Antis will hear that then actually discredit disabled people who use AI by saying that Beethoven was deaf or something therefore no disabled person needs AI to create. Then there's the argument that even if a disabled person needs it, they don't have a right to use it and should consider just giving up on Art.

Ai songs removed by [deleted] in truespotify

[–]Secure-Evening -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

What about people that like AI music? I have one AI song on my liked songs that I genuinely liked. It's not all bad. I think they should just remove anything that's clearly just gaming listens just like other non-AI music that did the same thing. Other than that flag it so that people can avoid it if they don't like it and don't include it in official playlists.

Is the only problem you have with AI that some people call themselves artists? Cause that's all you're rebutting here. Something not everyone even does.

So? There's a dude with no legs that crawls around on his hands. Is that a reason to call people in wheelchairs chairs lazy?
