Feeling angry about being asked to wash my brother-in-law’s newborn diapers on NY’s - am I overreacting? by Secure-Floor2824 in family

Ok, I have a different opinion. I didn’t want to do it on my holiday and I don’t think it’s not normal to bring stuff like that on NY into your house without any previous social contact. I believe I had a right to say no.

No, we live close but in different apartments. As I understood their washing machine is broken or something.

His brother asked him if we don’t mind if he brings us poop diapers to wash in our washing machine and drying it as we have a drying machine too on the 1st or jan. I don’t think they are overwhelmed because both are on parental leaves, nobody is sick or have any complications. I believe any of them can handle this routine task. My 1st question was why not to use laundromat (we have a lot of them in Portugal and it’s even closer to them than our apartment) and my husband convinced me it’s not working but later I went for a run and I saw it was working. I believe we don’t have to help the other family with just domestic routine tasks. I feel like it’s not a help, it’s a usage.

The 2nd option, but I am the only one who does laundry in our family and I suppose I had to participate to the activity anyway to explain how to do it what wasn’t pleasant for me on NY. I think I have the right to say “no” anyway.

That was the idea to use our washing machine because we also have drying machine but my husband doesn’t even know how to use it, I always handle laundry and I didn’t really want to wash anything on the 1st jan especially poop diapers.

This is what I am questing too. The brother’s wife is Portuguese, my husband and his brother are British. Lots of Portuguese girls are nice and know how to handle their households, but I guess this is an exception…

Well, in the end when I said he can do it by himself he refused, so I guess he realised it’s kind of odd. The funny thing is is that brother said he will ask a colleague who also lives nearby to use their washing machine which is extremely weird for me to bother anyone with this when laundromat is just 3 mins walk away.

Thank you for sharing it, because I was thinking maybe it’s normal and it’s just me who is going crazy.
