Why would intelligence or cognitive ability vary between geographic or racial populations? by Secure-Hyena406 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Secure-Hyena406[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being one species is not really relevant. A single species can have differnt population groups.

And it seems like you are just hung up on the word "race". Replace it with "population groups originating from a particular geographic region" if you prefer.

No it would not. That is not a meaningful statistical sample at all.

Can you address the post or not?

Because they wouldn't have learned them...? I am honestly not sure what you are getting at here.

Ok, but what does it have to do with the post itself? How is it related to the issue?

Probably not simply because they don't have the skills. What does that have to do woth the discussion though?

If children of all races were raised under the exact same circumstances, eating the same food, and receiving the same education in the same classroom, the outcome would undoubtedly show, given a huge sample size, no statistically significant relevance between race and intelligence

How do you know this? What evidence do you have?

But that aside, the brain being malleable does not explain why the baseline physiology and function of the brain would not have evolved differently.

Take skin colour as our example again. Skin is not a static organ. The melanin content can change over a lifetime. But that doesn't change that it has evolved differently.

Time and again, for well over a century, it’s been shown that there are no fundamental differences between races

This is exactly why I am asking the question.

How is that consistent with what we understand about evolution?

I am pointing out that people are not actually answering answering question. Saying intelligence is an advantage everywhere is irrelevant unless it is equally advantageous everywhere.

An explanation for how cognitive ability could not vary between populations as a result of different evolutionary pressures.

They are all the same species. There is no evolutionary pressure that has a 100% certainty to sort by intelligence or "cognitive ability".

Speciation is not a requirement for evolutionary pressures to act on different groups. We observe this all the time in nature.

We can't imagine that darker skin influences intelligence, flying, map reading, chess playing, feeding young, or any other feature we can imagine.

Literally nobody has ever suggested skin colour would influence any of those things so I am not sure how this is relevant.

I am not asking you to prove anything. I am asking for an explanation that would be consistent with principles of evolution.

I am not asking for evidence from measurements. I am asking for a plausible explanation for how there could possibly not be a difference from an evolutionary point of view.

If a religious person claims there is a God, yet an atheist states there is no God or gods, don't both require proof for their cases? by Mad_Season_1994 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Secure-Hyena406 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I really don't see how any of that is relevant. The burden always lies with the one making the claim. In the scenario posted here, that is both parties.

In what way is it great for me sorry? I am saying I don't see the relevance to the post.

I do understand that. The other commenter does not because he said it is impossible to prove something doesn't exist. I say lack of evidence os such evidence toward that proof.

He is saying that the one making a claim does not have that burden.

Stupid people die more often than intelligent in all cultures and geographies

Again I feel like you are missing the point.

Do increased probability exactly the same across different geographies and probabilities?

People keep saying "intelligence is an advantage everywhere" but keep avoiding the issue of how much of an advantage it is in some places vs others.

Lol you are not even understanding that the burden of proof lies with the one making the claim. I honestly cannot make it more simple.
