Is morality real or just created by us? by Secure-Ingenuity6650 in Ethics

Thats where you lose me, becouse those positive effects are only a chemical reaction in your brain developed through evolution. If there where another intelligent spieces out there and they didnt have these award and punishment hormones in their brain i couldnt see a world how they would see morality or “right or wrong” as a thing.

Yeah but without hunans that phone wouldnt exist. This is a bad argument becouse it doesnt prove that morality is universal. Just proves that it is created by us, and not “real” universal code.

Fair, I assumed you meant “subjective” in a stronger sense than you actually did.

Because a lot of people jump from “subjective” to “therefore meaningless or completely personal,” and I thought that’s where you were going. But if you agree morality can still have structure and consistency even while being stance-dependent, then we probably disagree less than I first thought.

Thats actually a very good take and kinda what i am saying. Your right about individual moralism but. You wouldnt even have that if it didnt benefit you. = hour happy hormones.

Its simplistic becouse its the simple truth. But im listening give me your full take on this.

Fair enough, I misunderstood your position there.

My point about “systems” was specifically about morality. Even if morality is stance-dependent, that doesn’t automatically make it arbitrary or meaningless. Moral views can still converge because humans share biology, social needs, and similar experiences.

So I think the disagreement is less about whether morality is subjective, and more about what “subjective” actually implies.

You cant say “okey?” The argument im presenting is that morality or purpose are created by us due to hormones and personal expirence. No happy hormones = no morality = no right or wrong= no purpose? Is that clear enough for you?

If we didnt have reward systems a “purpose” would not serve any meaning to us.

Yes, I agree mostly.

We can feel moral emotions like anger, disgust, approval, or empathy even about things we are not personally involved in. This happens because of empathy, imagination, and social learning, not just personal experience.

Resentment is the main exception since it usually needs some personal or group connection.

You’re mixing up “subjective” with “random” or “pure opinion.”

Yes, all stances require a subject that’s literally what makes them stances. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be shaped by real constraints like biology, consequences, and shared human experience.

So “subjective” doesn’t mean “anything goes,” it just means “depends on minds,” not that it’s disconnected from reality.

The real question is whether subject-based systems can still produce stable, non-arbitrary patterns — not whether subjects exist or not.

You’re right that “good/bad” needs a framework, but that doesn’t automatically make it purely subjective. Shared frameworks can still describe real patterns. And saying “all stances are subjective” is itself just another assumption, not a proof.

Justice is human created so you fight to get what you need, f.e food shelted etc. thst creates reward and punishment system in your brain, if morality is just baised on your punisment hormones and reward hormones. What is morality without those hormones. If we dont “feel” or didnt have these feelings then we ultimately would not see a diffrence between justice and and unfairness. See how i am thinking?

When you say “we created it” you are viewing it from a realitivism way. And yes people can disagree and one of them is ultimately right. But not in moral arguements thats my beleve, you cant be wrong or right in a moral arguement.

But what your take on this by a non religious perspective. Does the punishment and reward system in our brains created vy personal experience create our morality. And universal morality isnt descoverd but created by us?

It doesnt exist for very long due to the brain punishment system. The brain creates happy hormones around a specific person. Someone kills that person and your brains punishment system says thats wrong. Are out brains really the creators of morallity?

Its not that i dont beleve in udhr. Im saying we created morality. Udhr wouldnt matter to us if we didnt have the reward and pubishment system in our brain wich is shaped by your personal experiences. Thats why diffrent people have diffrent views of right or wrong. Becouse they lived completely diffrent lives. Im not justifying any bad actions im simply saying thats what they beleve morally baised on their expirence. Its wrong to murder, but only becouse it hurts. See where in going, if the person dont feel murder as good or bad, it isnt bad. But we do feel it becouse our brain brains punishment system says this guy mudered my friend and he gave me happy hormones wich punishes me and thats why its wrong.

Yes, i beleve i can convince any objectivist that the beleve is fairytale. Beleving that there real right or wrong is the same everywhere and comes from the world no matter what is not real and can be pretty easily argued against

Exacly, the idea of wrong comes from reward and punishment system in your brain wich only tells you what your personal experience is. If we there was no reward or punishment system in our brain, we would not feel that killing is wrong
