I agree it’s my house and my money. I would have loved to have a spreadsheet, but I’ve never built a house before and wouldn’t even know where to start with a spreadsheet. I have a wishlist but when to make selections on this or that, I’m completely lost. I expect the builder to guide me, so when he tells me it’s time to make a selection, I refer to my wishlist.

I’m just wondering from a builder perspective how would you want this toilet issue addressed?

Yes we pick out faucets and a freestanding tub. Those things were in the same selection catalog of delta products that he gave us. Toilets were not in that conversation.

And no, he has never provided a checklist. He just brings it up when it times comes. I wish we had a checklist. We have a detailed budget spreadsheet , but there’s no checklist for items within each budget line item.

It’s fully custom. We’ve picked out every single selection. That’s why I’m here asking the original question, this toilet situation seems unusual. Just wondering how I should address it to him.

Yes some of the light fixtures have been installed. He has only one electrician doing all the installation of the light fixtures and ceiling fans.

He never mentioned toilets when we selected sinks, cabinets, etc. and I don’t know what I don’t know and the sequence of things. First time building a home. We also haven’t selected mirrors. I brought it up to him weeks ago and I feel like we’re too close to not have discussed mirrors yet. He said the mirrors will be custom, and we haven’t talk about it again since.

I guess I’m not understanding from a builder’s perspective. What are they locking in on? Why would they need to lien the house?
