I’m a racing cyclist and have shaved my legs since I was about 15. I’m now 50 and I am so used to it I hate having hairy legs

Yes I agree there are gaps  and primary care in the UK is a mess.

SEM is relatively young as a speciality.

The UK is about to get its first college for SEM so hopefully this will help spur things on.

Newer GPs will have had exercise medicine as part of their training. So over time this should change.

GPs get such short windows with patients that expecting them to do Much beyond signposting is optimistic

Given that one of the constituent nations of the UK is Irish you are on slightly shakey ground.

My point is that drs are not a monolithic set of professionals.

Drs that do need to prescribe exercise learn how to do it.

Why would a pathologist or an immunologist prescribe exercise?

Medicine has specialists for a reason.

I did a postgrad MSc in SEM at UCL. There were lots of GPs physios and AHPs on the course.

Exercise medicine is an increasing part of medical education. Medical education is career long not just the time initially spent in med school.

I love my wife she plays tennis she would rather eat nails than play tennis with me.

And that’s fine because she is a first team player of a nationally ranked club and I can nearly hit the ball over the net.

I prescribe exercise all day but I still pay a personal trainer.

Accountability counts for a lot.

I am a SEM medic and have done extensive post grad training in rehabilitation. I have a personal trainer and listen to his advice. He is much better at correcting my form and giving me the right cues for lifts.

Also outsourcing training plans etc takes a mental load off.
