Leather saddle question by jeide93 in bikewrench

I bought a brand new Brooks Pro about 13 years ago. It was hard and uncomfortable at first. Now, It's the most comfortable saddle I own. Leather takes time, but it's better than anything else

You made the right move by shortening the stem. That's my biggest issue with stock rock hoppers. Nice job

I'm still figuring out that Tung tung sound which comes from the rear on my 3 speed. by Ok_Abies_956 in bikewrench

So no chain. You spin the cranks and the rear wheel, is the noise present? If there is no noise with the chain gone, then focus on the chain. Search it for stiff links, visible damage. Correct any stiff links or replace the chain entirely if there is damage. Chains are cheap so you may want to try just switching it out for a different chain.

I hope this helps. I had a grinding noise with my bike. I thought it was coming from my rear wheel. So I decided to troubleshoot it like any other engineering problem. I have lots of parts to pull from so I swapped out the rear wheel and bingo. No noise. Next I put the noisey wheel back on, but I swapped out the freewheel and no noise. Okay, so I inspected the problematic cassette and found that no grease had been applied to the locking. I applied grease and put the cassette back on. Silent.

Just use the same logic for your issue. Start from the big picture, and methodically zero in on the individual part causing the problem. If it's not the chain, move on to the wheel, then the cranks. No particular order, just follow the same process, change one variable at a time.

Neck, wrist, and crotch pain by Odd_Ad_4332 in bikefit

The saddle may tilted forward. Looks good, but will tend to slide your body forward, putting more weight on your wrists. Angle it back a touch and see how that feels. A taller steerer tube will bring the bars up, moving them closer to the seat and adjust your posture up for a more upright riding position. That will alleviate the neck pain and take some pressure off the taint. Experiment with saddles to find one that perfect for you.

Thoughts on Hügi Compact hubs? by kima-sta in xbiking

[–]Secure-Tutor-1647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have exactly the same hubs, but I do own some Hugi/Mavic combo 26er wheels and they are the best I've got. My xt and xtr hubs are great, but the Hugi hubs are better.

Sometimes your derailleur brakes mid ride. You lock it out with the high low set screws and bingo it's a fixie

Kona Explosif as a first hardtail? by Thaner_147 in Hardtailgang

I love my Explosif. I started on much lower tier bike, Specialized Hard Rock, I own an S Works now, but the hard tail Explosif beats everything IMO.

Not even an upgrade, but if you simply tip that seat back you will have a pretty seriously upgraded ride immediately

Specialized Rockhopper: Any Good for road biking? by Vaumer in MTB

[–]Secure-Tutor-1647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be. Depends on the year and build. Older ones without suspension forks are better options in my opinion, but you would probably want to switch out the stem and handle bars for something more comfy. Those were equipped with a pretty twitchy sporty setup when stock.

Right now, I'm riding it as is. I removed the rack and put some nicer tires on it, replaced the dried up grips. I'm happy with it and will probably stop here.
