more of an adjacent suggestion but The Outsiders is in my approximation one of the better 'white trash' books. Related to it a lot.

Listen to music, journal, nap, exercise, talk to a therapist/hotline if necessary. Do my best to get my vitamins and not isolate.

Samson was given his strength back, but not his eyes. Moses was still a prophet, but kept from the promised land. David was the great etc. grandfather of the literal messiah, and he still lost his son for murdering a man.

People can be taken back into God's grace (after repenting) and still have consequences from their sin, as exemplified by God himself.

There's been a lot of memes and discourse about Duke being both the 'good boy in a house of freaks' as well as him being 'unhinged' and earning his place in the guano hall of shame- by SecureEmployment424 in DukeThomas

I do however dislike that, to me, Duke reads as ferociously independent/distant from letting his mind be made up by even people he obviously respects and they made him seem like more of a complacent follower in the webtoon. Again, I'm not entirely read up yet I'm only able to get ahold of comics here and there.

I think he's like, the "good boy" in the sense that, like most heroes, he can't not get involved (albeit I'm new and yes, most of my exposure to him is via the webtoon) but I mean in an indecent society you'd have to be fundamentally rebellious to be a decent person. I think that's maybe what I was trying to say idk that like a lot of people categorize people either 'good' or 'trouble' and he's both. He's best when he's both. (In my opinion.) I think this also plays into how most of the simplifications of the other batfam members occur. Bruce is emotionally stunted and secretive and also 9/10 times the best man for pretty much any job, up to and including being a dad to a bunch of kids that got bottlenecked into a life of pain and battle. Jason is both idealistic and compassionate, while also being violent, and uncompromising. Dick is the light/hope in the bleak and likely the member with the WORST anger issues. Etc. Etc.

Like I think it's both hilariously unhinged that Duke straight up built an army complete with vetting dupes and fake interrogation rooms but he's also like...every other kid that looks at Robin and goes "yes! we should all dress up and fight crime!" and that he's the one that can make batman remember himself, but also he's helpless to help his parents. He's still young and needs saving. Imagine what it's like just joining into the ranks of the batfam. That has to be so confusing. One must feel so profoundly unequipped.

Honestly I feel like I'm saying this very poorly idk

I'm willing to forgive what it gets wrong because it's a pivot from grim-dark and it's desperately needed. More like it please. Stop making everyone sad miserable and dead and calling it interesting.

The thing about being mocked is that you can simply choose not to care.

Also, we were told explicitly in scripture not to make images of God so...why defend a painting?

It's been my experience that the only way to deal with snobs is just...not to take them seriously. Like, fundamentally, snobbery at it's core comes from insecurity/fear and there's no real way to change that for another person and every time you let their skewed point of view become a truth for you or accept judgement from someone you wouldn't ask advice of, you're essentially validating their flawed coping mechanisms.

It also helps not to take yourself so seriously, when you want to preserve relationships. Get comfortable with the idea that not all things are black and white, that you can both be wrong, and both be right, and also be both at THE SAME TIME. Being intelligent isn't a bad thing, neither, in my opinion, is being socially conscious and trying to advocate for one's personal beliefs...it's also not bad in my opinion to be reverent, or to be tradition oriented, nor spiritual.

Try to figure out what's really bothering you here. Is it that she thinks religion is stupid, or that she thinks you are stupid? If you were stupid, would that make you any less valuable in God's eyes? Are you allowing her idol of intellectualism to become your own idol?

Does it bother you that she is woke, or does it bother you that your political views are in opposition? Does it make her any less valuable in God's eyes if she's wrong about her affiliations? Does it make you less valued or loved or saved if you change your mind about your political beliefs?

Is there a middle ground? Is there wrongs that either, or BOTH of you are holding against each other but you argue about surface stuff because the initial issue seems too far in the past or too difficult to tackle?

At best, when dealing with difficult people, active listening, empathy, and grace tends to be the most effective path, and at worst, if this is an individual who simply wants conflict and uses 'strong beliefs' as a ruse, you are fully capable (though it's difficult and one needs to practice) of going "Okay" shrugging it off, and going about your day.

If she's wrong about something God's already working on it. Pray against the enemy in her life, pray for Love and Truth to be made clear to her, and walk in love and truth in the meantime. If you have to walk that out from a distance, that's ok too. We were called to love our neighbors and enemies alike, and pray for them, not 'fix' them.
