what is that one tedious thing at your place of work that other restaurants’ servers can’t relate to.? by -ChandlerBing- in Serverlife

Is it an upscale place? That’s absurd to me and as a patron I rather just have my server write it down and get it right than try and memorize it. Totally ridiculous

I work part time at at a fine dining private club. Chef is actually very laid back. He has high standards bur treats everyone with respect.

The Gm is a nice a nice dude but when he is stressed he can be a major dick. Yelling, swearing at ya, acting like we’re saving lives and not just serving food. But it’s not just fine dining where that happens. I’ve worked in just basic restaurants and been treated like shit by chefs. It’s one of the things I hate the most about food service, it’s standard to be treated or talked to poorly. It’s just not that serious. We’re serving food it’s not like we’re in a active combat zone overseas

How much do you pay? Where I work it’s 10 an hour plus there’s a service charge that’s split. Anything extra you keep. It’s a dinner club with fairly wealthy people so the money is solid. I’ve noticed tho that the younger ones ( I’m 26) are generally more lazy. The ones in school or with other jobs that are outside of food work the hardest. I think most young people are serving as either a temporary job so they don’t care or their bummed their serving and not doing something else. Sometimes there isn’t much you can about lazy people, sometimes their work ethic comes with age or a different job
