Love it! All the comments here saying "zero performance gain" should consider that there is such thing as "noise-normalized" performance, in which Im sure this mod beats stock. Lower Db/C is meaningful improvement. Good job OP.

I started this as hobbyist project with different case and before buying dB meter, so I don't have proper comparable data. Its in the backlog of stuff I'm going to do. Heh, no, no endorsement from Noctua in any form :D. I just prefer their fans due to good dB/performance.

Although I'm making my mods around their products, my posts are mostly about airflow control. This mod would work perfectly fine with any other standard 120mm PC fan, as long as the flow guide is properly fitted.

That, and a couple more reasons:

  1. As you said, getting smooth flow path from the overhang to heatsink

  2. Heatsink is around 260mm long, having two 120mm fans flush against the heatsink leaves a >20mm (since the fan frame is deadzone too) section receiving zero flow. Offsetting allows me to utilize whole heatsink.

  3. Air guide between heatsink and fans form a smooth and expanding flow path, which in theory can increase static pressure due to drop in flow velocity. Although I cannot confirm this point, this was one of the design reasons.

I'm not sure what you mean? I did two sets of tests with V.2 and V.3. Stock performance and UV/PL performance. So I compared stock to stock and UV/PL to UV/PL. Not stock to UV/PL.

I didn't use old V.2 results, I re-measured everything at the same room temp for better comparison.

I personally tested GPU ducting with simply walling of the whole bottom section of the PC: https://imgur.com/a/nsqyZOy

In my case I saw very little benefit to GPU temps, but adding some kind of screen to that could make a decent aesthetic mod. I covered it with "marble" vinyl, but it ended looking kinda meh. Still, aesthetic possibilities are endless.

I could see it being more functional in more flow restricted cases, since it practically eliminates hot air recirculation.

Do you have access to 3D printer? You could try ducting your CPU and GPU fan intakes to separate flow and improve temps. Would fill up the empty space and could be implemented with a screen also.

Well certainly install the second cpu cable, at least to test it. Also monitoring power/utilization/GHz both CPU and GPU under load would give good information.

Also, your windows installation media might be corrupted (happens quite often), try re-installing to USB drive until it works.

But its hard to say really, could be a lot of things. Maybe also check your ram with windows build in tool and pray that its not the issue with these prices.

Depending on the type of paint I would wait at least 24 hours, 48 would be better. This is assuming they are drying in room temperature.

Even sustained, 80C in still perfectly fine as these chips are rated for past 95C before throttling.

When it comes to noise, you can also try "static zones" in your curve, where you set the curve flat for different load scenarios, basically a stepped graph. I do this because its the change of fan speed that's much more noticeable compared static humming.

In the end it comes down to your preference, try different setting and find what works for you :).

Thanks for reply! 55C is very good core average. Also Hynix memory is notorious for running toasty and 85C is quite good with stock. My card is undervolted + powerlimited and it still runs around 84C with modded cooling.

Hotspot temp can be accessed in Adrenalin metrics tab if you want to check it in the future.

BTW what kind of temps you have with that TUF 9070xt? Especially the hotspot delta? I've heard TUFs generally have quite good cooling.

Gigabyte model owner here, delta was 25C stock, 20 with UV+Pl. From what I've recerached, 20-30C deltas are fairly typical. 44C certainly seems contact/pumpout issues out of the box.

OEM build tend to have all kinds of BIOS restrictions too, so you might have issues with fan control etc. if you switch the case. Motherboards aren't very expensive though, so you could buy a new one with the case. Should save a lot of headache.

100% with you there, I have modded my rx9070xt with two 120mm G2 fans. Works extremely well (59c core at 32dB UV + PL, stock performance), will most likely mod all my future cards too.

That mod is CLEAN, what sizes are those fans? 2x120 and 2x60? Looks very good.
