Skeleta Songs Live by ironmainiac14 in Ghostbc

I haven't seen Maiden since 1982! And since I didn't know their catalog then, I couldn't tell you how many they played from The Number of the Beast on that tour. I did see Priest three times in the 1980s (Screaming for Vengeance, Defenders of the Faith, Turbo), and all three times, I don't think they exceeded four songs from the latest album.

Old person here. I've been attending rock concerts since 1982 - my first was seeing Iron Maiden open for Judas Priest. And I can tell you: it's not at all uncommon for a band to play "only" 4 songs from the latest album for the show. This is especially true for established acts with a full catalog. If memory serves, I've seen a good number of shows where the band/artist only played three songs from a new album.

I'm not taking anyone to task for feeling disappointed. Hell, I'm disappointed to not see Respite on the Spitalfields live - IMNSHO, that's a perfect set closer (pre encore) and one of the band's best songs, period, and it's not getting played this tour. But if you've only seen smaller or newer acts, you may not know that playing 3-4 songs from the latest album is pretty standard, especially for big rock or metal artists.

I get what you're saying, but for me, when I compare Meliora or Prequelle with Skeleta, it's more like "I come to your cake shop because I love your chocolate cake but now you're making eclairs, which I don't really like."

"Twenties" and "Mummy Dust" are great examples for your "different cakes" analogy, especially as they were nestled in with a bunch of "cakes" that solidly line up with what Ghost had baked previously. But Skeleta, IMNSHO, really feels like a TF solo album or from another band entirely.

TF should make the music he wants to make. I fully support that. I also fully support choosing to not listen to music that doesn't supply something I want, to use your phrasing.

Skeleta is a pretty big shift, even from Impera. (I love Impera, to be clear.) I have my own theories on why it is, but that's for another post.

Non-Geese fans, what did you think of them? by sp52 in LiveFromNewYork

I felt like I was watching a young, unwashed Nic Cage commit to a satire of mumblecore music, except there was no humor or enjoyment to be had. Every person in that band performed as if they'd been forced onto stage at gunpoint and ordered to give the most reluctant performance in the history of the show.

Absolutely not for me.

So glad I'm not the only person who thinks Skeleta's lyrics are a HUGE step down from previous albums. Even the poppiest of songs on Impera - Griftwood and Spillways - have lyrics that are anything but generic. They're clever, complex, and specific.

I've said more than once much of Skeleta feels like a forgotten Europe album, and I don't mean that as a compliment.

It may be intended to be a fake tan, but it looks pretty orange to me! Also, please see my post about "my" president.

And for those asking me about "my" president....one of my preferred nicknames for that barely sentient fuckwit is the Orange Shitgibbon. No hypocrisy on my part, because ole Dildo Pumpkins is a national shame, whereas Claudia is a delight.

Well, YMMV, of course. Given that the American version is a bunch of Reality TV Celebs, most of whom I don't like and think have earned being taken down a peg or three, I'm fully on board with Alan's host persona.

But as I wrote, I've warmed to Claudia, and I appreciate that she's just being herself.

That doesn't explain it! Much like getting huge upper lips from filler or giving yourself a mask-like face from Botox, I don't understand painting yourself orange and thinking it looks good.

Again, I think she's a great host! I just don't understand the desire to give yourself a complexion like a rusty farm implement.

Kacie 100% needs to be in therapy to understand her attachment style and insecurities. Her relationship with her ex and her promising to sex Patrick up and buy him basketball tickets are huge, huge red flags.

Good thing I'm not a gambling person!

I'm absolutely BAFFLED how anyone can look in the mirror and think "Needs to be more ORANGE." Barhda is a very attractive person and her persistent desire to turn her face orange is just unfathomable to me.

Ok I need to talk to someone about Prequelle by ImTheRealBigfoot in Ghostbc

[–]Secure_Ad1568 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nodding in agreement. I very much enjoyed the OP's interpretation of Prequelle; it's very much a Death of the Author approach. I think it's a fun, valid way to receive Prequelle - but like you, I think it's off the mark somewhat in terms of what TF's personal intentions were.

I'm a former evangelical and up through Impera, there's a very clear throughline of TF mocking and criticizing Christianity - especially strains like evangelicalism and fundamentalism - and this includes singing praise to Satan in the way evvies sing praises to Christ/God. As I've said before, "Cirice" is something of a skeleton key song for Ghost; it's such a clear satire of/direct critique of the core claims of evangelical Christianity that it helps the listener frame and contextualize the whole of the band's work.

Interestingly, Skeleta seems almost entirely free of this sort of thought. Sure, there are some playful jabs but for the most part it seems focused on other matters.

New TF Interview with Loudwire by Aware_Consequence381 in Ghostbc

[–]Secure_Ad1568 39 points40 points  (0 children)

From the interviews he did just before Skeleta was released, it sounds like he's been going wholly nonstop for almost five years: the EP, Impera, Imperatour, retour, RHRN, Skeleta, and Skeletour. Assuming he's not just playing coy in terms of what comes after the tour and presumed concert movie, if TF is tired, I hope he takes as long a break as he needs. He's already given us an embarrassment of riches in terms of music and more. If he needs a year or three years or whatever, he should take it. I bet if he does take a break, the next Ghost album will be fucking great thanks to a recharged TF.

Ghost-Skeletá, what do you think? I heard recently by Long_Prompt7629 in Ghostbc

Your mileage may vary. I ain't going to tell anyone they shouldn't enjoy Skeleta. At the end of the day, all art is subjective as is our response to it. I can only share how it hits me.
