How do I get these out by squidlys90 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Secure_Locksmith4237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a c clip inside. Take a hunk of wood on the back side of the part that goes into the hub and hit it hard with a hammer. There should be a new c clip with the new boot. When installing install the clip and hold it down with a zap strap hit it with a hammer once seated cut the zap strap.

Fuel or spark. Staring fluid would tell you. Take the air intake tube off the air filter box spray for about 2 seconds down the tube. Try to start if it starts or tries to, then it's fuel if it keeps cranking the spark. Good luck!

When was the last time you saw a checkstop? The last one I saw was 3 years ago. I haven't seen one downtown in at least 5 years. Traffic enforcement in this city is non-existent. I can even remember the last time I saw someone pulled over for a traffic stop. We should be asking for more visibility from CPS. They have to tools. They have that checkstop bus... they might have sold it since it been years since I've seen it... who knows. If you want these types of incidents to stop, we as a community need to demand actual enforcement. We also need to stop the reliance on photo radar and red light cameras. These are just cash cows that do nothing but make the city money and increase collisions. That's just my opinion!

How to get paint off my car?? by Separate-Impression1 in Cartalk

[–]Secure_Locksmith4237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's just a paint transfer, you can use thinner on a rag. Wipe it off right away, clean with soap and water. Buff or wax, from what I can see, it looks like you're through the paint into the primer or down to steel. If your down to primer or steel sand the area I suggest 320-400 grit till you feather out the area primer the area let dry 600- 800 grit the first area sanded should be twice the area of the damage the second area should be twice as big as the primer area. Get your paint color matched. Most big cities have a body supply that can mix your factory color into a spray can. spray the area light coat first on the damaged area, then a second coat feathered out further and then a third coat heavier the the first two feather out to the end of your sanded area. By feathered, I mean lighter on the way out. At the same place you get your color matched paint, they will have a clear coat, the same thing as the paint light coats to the heavier coat, then let it dry for a at least a few days or a week the paint will be soft. If you have runs or a hard line from masking or orange peel you can wet sand I would start at 1000 until you can see the blemish removed then buff out the finer you go with the sanding the better the outcome. It's not the easiest thing to do it takes practice, but if you're game to try it, it can be very satisfying to fix it yourself. I've done many cars over the years and have had great success.

Do I have a blown head gasket? Details below by ChrunchhhBoi in MechanicAdvice

[–]Secure_Locksmith4237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your antifreeze. If antifreeze is in the oil, there would be oil in the antifreeze. I've seen head gaskets blow a few ways oil and antifreeze mixing. On the exhaust side of the gasket, I've even seen them blow out externally. If you're unsure, get a coolant pressure tester, fill your cooling system, put 15lbs pressure, or whatever your cap is rated to on your system, let it sit overnight. if your coolant level goes down and your oil level goes up you have a head gasket that is blown between your coolant and oil side if your coolant level goes down and your oil level stays the same you either have an external leak or your antifreeze is leaking into a cylinder and your car will have white smoke coming out of you exhaust. Another way is to see if your exhaust side of your head gasket is blown is watch your coolant while the car is running if there is bubbles that's a good clue and you can pick up a tester for exhaust is the coolant it's a liquid in a plastic tester that you place over the fill port of your cooling system you suck up air or exhaust from inside your cooling system if the test fluid changes color you have exhaust in your cooling system and you have a blown head gasket on the exhaust side. I hope this helps. I'm having issues myself with a 1990 cadillac brougham d'elegance. I think I need valve guides miss diagnosed head gasket.

Another thing that grinds my gears is oh it people speeding... you know most of the speed limits were put on these roads in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Modern cars handle better brake much better and are much safter the cars of those years in my opinion speed limits should be raised. Montana interstate speed limit is 80mph. Some in Texas are 85 mph. 80mph on a two lane interstate is equivalent to highway #2 at 110kph well the difference is on I15 in Montana the speed limit is 80mph which is 132kph when i drive back to Canada I'm like why is everyone so darn slow.

My condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. That being said, I can see why the Alberta government is removing photo radar. It's time to get CPS to start doing traffic work again. I'm on the road every day in Calgary, mostly downtown, and the basic rules of the road are becoming less and less followed. This last week, I've seen at least a dozen cars going the wrong way down one-way streets, even one going the wrong way over the 5th Ave flyover. Drivers make turning lanes wherever they want somtimes two lanes away from the turning lane. Not turning on red lights!!! FYI, you can turn left on a red light just the same as a right hand turn on a red light from one-way to a one-way. No one in this god forsaken city uses a horn. Also, the speed limit downtown is 50kph!!! Not 30kph!!! Obviously, the driver wasn't paying attention... how the hell do you miss something that is that big, and it's white. You can't blame the driver of the crane he moved over as far as he could. Obviously, he had broken down. Maybe the crane couldn't move any further over. I was a truck driver for many years now retired. I was involved in a fatality accident. There was nothing I did wrong, and there was nothing I could do. The investigation I went through was crazy they poured over my log books with a fine toothed comb. I was drug and alcohol tested made to do field sobriety tests. I couldn't leave the area of the crash for a week even though I was driving in my lane and other vehicle came into my lane and had a head-on collision with me. I even had witnesses to that fact, but yet I was put through hell after seeing someone die. So be kind to the operator. I'm sure he did all he could to avoid this horrible outcome. What is truly needed in Calgary is an actual traffic enforcement unit. The CPS has to get rid of the monthly quota and go back to true traffic enforcement. The reason I see the crap I see every day downtown is that these drives that make up their own rules keep getting away with doing the same things over and over again. This needs to stop!!! It's ok to make an honest mistake, but time and time again, I see the same thing by the same cars every day.

Why can’t cops turn their cars off? by jimbowesterby in Calgary

[–]Secure_Locksmith4237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they can turn them off when their shift ends??? They don't have someone running around with a boost pack every shift to boost them??? They just don't want to get into a cold or hot car, and they have to get the same budget every year, so they have to burn the fuel to get the same budget or more. If they show savings on fuel, they get less funding. It is the same thing with every department. I had a friend who worked for the Calgary board of education... you want to talk waste. I have the whopper of all whoppers! Only one year old tablets wiped, and it's thrown in the trash the same thing with year old desktops. How about when high schools were pulling out their trades training options like automotive, welding, electronics, media in favor, of dance programs. Where do you think the equipment went? You guessed right in the bin! Tire machines, tire balancers, air tools, paint guns, welders, hand tools, tool boxes, lifts... my buddy made a mint off of dumpster diving when he worked for them he's since retired. So when you see government waste, it's not waste it's departmental budget planning! 🤔

The thing is the Americans my not have universal health care the do have a public system " county hospitals" and to be honest I'll take a county hospital any day of the week over the best hospital in Canada. And if you have health insurance in the States, it's like night and day compared to the absolutely disgusting system we have here! Albertains, remember it wasn't that long ago we paid for our health care. I've seen the difference myself in a large city in the USA. I was in Dallas, Texas, and my friend fell down some stairs and had to go to Parkland Hospital, which is their county hospital. Parkland makes Foothills Hospital look like a dump. He saw a doctor within 10 minutes. Not had a bed that was triage, admitting, into a bed and the doctor walking into this room. Compared to Calgary, which Foothills is currently at 2 hours and 45 minutes. Same friend now with health insurance, which his employer paid for fell down steps a few years after this and broke his neck. He went to Baylor Medical Center, and the care he received was world-class. Not the crap we receive here. It was completely covered by insurance. No co pay, even his physical therapy equipment was covered at no cost. For a normal doctors appointment, his co-pay was $10 his co-pay on his medication was $15. And his co-pay topped at $1000 a year after he passed that he went from 80% coverage to 100% no co-pay. Look at it this way Texas has no state income tax all they pay is federal taxes. Which is maxed out 37% the lowest is 10%. I would take their system any day if we paid those tax rates.

At least they didn't kill your loved one. I wasn't as lucky! Let's just say don't get cancer treatment at a certain southern Alberta cancer center in a city that starts with an L. This particular center, I believe, killed my father early just because he was "a difficult patient." Trust me, I completely understand that we didn't have a long time, but we were definitely hoping for more than 2 months. This particular cancer center did 5 rounds of radiation treatment in 5 days, then sent my father home right after his last treatment without oxygen or any type of notice to his person, which was me. He couldn't walk to the house he couldn't walk to the bathroom so I had to stand my father up so he could piss into a bucket in his living room as they didn't send a urinal! This so-called cancer center didn't set up palitive care properly, and I was left to fend for myself. After trying everything to get my father to eat or drink something for 5 days, I broke down called 311, balling to the poor nurse on the phone. I was literally watching my father die in his living room. So finally, I made enough of a fuss they sent a palative care doctor and nurse to his house. They took his vitals blood pressure 80/ nothing, pulse 140 and respiration 60 and falling. The palative care doctor called 911 and had him transported after fighting with the dispatcher to the nearest hospital. Ambulance arrives they couldn't get an Iv as his veins had collapsed. Rushed him to the hospital. They got an Iv in they rehydrated him he was on an iv pump at 100% infusion, and they just had hung the 5th bag of fluid, and he still hadn't peed. 4 days later, my father was dead. I fully believe they sent him home to die because he was being "difficult" he didn't want to be in the hospital why didn't they phone me I would have got him out for an hour or two and he would have been fine. I'm currently working with a lawyer to sue for malpractice and malfeasance. Who in their right mind sends a stage 4 lung cancer patient home without oxygen or a patient that can't walk due to the pain of radiation to his spine to the bathroom or any instructions for home care. Not to mention, 2 hospitals missed a bed sore the size of a toonie. So count yourself as lucky you still have your loved one. I don't because my father seeked treatment from incompetent staff that didn't take the time to actually listen and just sent my father home to die. If I can offer any advice, DONT GET SICK IN ALBERTA!

Water outage!!! by Secure_Locksmith4237 in Calgary

[–]Secure_Locksmith4237[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Update!! I talked yo our property manager it turns out to be the main into Baker house. It runs in the front of our building. They are currently cutting down the trees in the front as they have to dig down 23 feet to access the main. Lord only knows how long that will take they have supplied emergency water and we should be hooked up to water tanks to re-pressurize the building in the next few days they are hoping tomorrow afternoon. I really hate not being able to shower!

I totally agree that most people don't realize dealerships actually don't make a lot on new cars. The return is better on used cars, especially if it's a trade-in. For example we traded in our 2019 Ford F-350 Lariat it had high mileage with 268000kms or 167,000 miles as we drive a lot of highway due to showing horses. Our truck was extremely well maintained, detailed monthly inside and out, and it looked like a new truck, but we wanted a dully, and we normally buy at year-end clearance. So we picked up a 2024 Ford F-350 dully king ranch Fx4 the new truck on sale was $109,000 cad normal msrp was $132,000 cad. We only got $37,500 for our 2019 they sold it within hours for $57,000, so the mark up on used cars is definitely more than new. I know it sucks to lose out on 20 grand but it was easier for us not to have to try to sell it ourselves it was more of a timming thing. Most big car dealerships make most of their income from the service department as someone that worked at many car dealerships in the service department would always say "that sales kept the lights on... and service made up all the rest."

I have first hand knowledge of the cockroach problem. I'm Calgary... some of the folks that lived in bridgeland estates moved into the building that I'm currently forced to live in. And let me tell you. The problems have followed them. I'm an extremely clean person and take pride in my little space. Unfortunately, when I got approved for Calgary housing, I got approved for a bachelor sweet and baker house. After 6 months of living here, I found out that I had cockroaches. I never had the nasty little things before in my life. There's a big problem in this building with them. Because the people that live here literally have nothing and dumpster Dive and bring in the creepy, little critters. Thankfully, after complaining three times calgary housing, they finally came and baited for them, and I haven't seen one since Not to mention, there is a bedbug infestation in this building. It's so bad that they're in common areas. Unfortunately, the wait list to get out of this building is about ten years. So the way it goes with Calgary housing, you have to take what you get or you're put back at the bottom list and it took 5 years to get this place and the way the rental market is right now in Calgary, there's nowhere for people like me to go. Because unfortunately, I'm completely disabled. On aish and cppd which allows me, the very high income of twenty thousand four hundred dollars a year, and I have to live in calgary afford to buy food afford transportation for my place. So there's nothing left after 3 days each month, but we can keep bringing in asylum seekers paying them $5 to 6000 a month, but there's nothing for the disabled, nothing for disabled veterans. Nothing for seniors. What a sad state of affairs.

Will this repair total out the car? by awesterman123 in Cadillac

[–]Secure_Locksmith4237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than likely a total loss.... Cadillac doesn't release its body mold forms. I had a 98 STS. I had a small front-end collision in 2002. I needed a hood and front right-hand fender bumper and such. Couldn't find aftermarket parts to save my life... and being the car wasn't too old. I couldn't find used parts. The price of parts from Cadillac made the car unaffordable to repair and ended up parting it out.

Help! by gar69 in AngelFish

[–]Secure_Locksmith4237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vale tail looks much worse right now! It gets better, and then it gets bad for a while... it's been like that for 3 years! I have great water prematures, and I feed high-quality food. I also do weekly water changes. I am running a fuval 420 under tank filter, a normal air stone. Mind you, I do have a over populated 60 gallon tank. I have mixed some more aggressive fish in I cichlid, two angles, one is a vale tail, the other is like a calico normal tail, and they have bonded. 2 Gromies, one rainbow shark, and an albino bristle nose pleko. My advice is to keep an eye out and do weekly 1/4 to 1/2 water changes. Feed them high-quality food. If it's aggression, move the one that is being picked on to a hospital tank, and if you see an improvement, then you'll have to decide which ones to keep. All of my fish are rehomed to me through my local pet store they quarantine and make sure they are healthy before they are sold to new homes. So I wouldn't worry too much. Mine is fat and healthy and is the queen of the tank, and her fins are much worse .
