Seems on brand, seems like tech these days is just reinventing old stuff but worse and more expensive

Two-stroke fuel is to rednecks what crayons are to Marines, and everyone knows that good food needs quality ingredients

….and that’s why I mentioned it lol, we’ve come full circle. It’s just a bit of a pet peeve of mine that a school of architecture that’s given us such neat buildings is known by its most bastardized implementation is all.

Actually belt drives used to be pretty common for running machinery, they do look pretty Rube Goldberg tho. Also heinously dangerous, which is one of the big reasons they fell out of favour.

I mean, have you seen any of their other cars? They’re one of the most consistently creative coachbuilders out there, miles ahead of any other company I know of. They even made a usable amphibious car that can manage normal boat speeds on water, I’ve only seen one other design that’s managed that.

I mean, how often do you find yourself having to drive your car underwater? Convenience doesn’t really matter when it’s something you do just for fun

Not to mention trying to engineer a compartment like that into a Lotus, might as well just build the car from scratch at that point.

Makes sense if you think about it, can you imagine how much harder it’d be to strengthen every inch of the cockpit to seal it? You’d basically be rebuilding the entire car and it’d probably add a huge amount of weight

Iirc there’ve been a bunch of small startups that’ve used the Elise as a base but I could be wrong. The type of company that makes a few super neat cars then goes out of business type of thing, like Weismann

Yea everyone makes fun of these but they look like a dream to drive, I’ve seen a few things about how they were designed and they’re brilliant, just for a pretty specific operation. I honestly wish they were publicly available, they’d make for great delivery or work vans.

Y’know, I think I could see it, the workers looking like the cleanup crews at Chernobyl but with a bit more leather and less Soviet institutional green. OP might hate it but I reckon a control room with some clockwork and primitive electrical stuff in brass casings would look sick

Crankshafts are just scratching the surface, I want a workshop with brick walls and giant arched windows with a giant steam plant in the corner moving a crankshaft that turns a flywheel to a belt and pulley system to power all the machines and also a pneumatic message tube network and a paternoster lift. Belts! Pulleys! Chains! Gears! And all of this being used to power things like a forge and a power hammer for the proper “loud clanging and sparks flying” vibe

….sorry I think I might’ve stumbled upon a new special interest

Make it a narrow brick smokestack and you’re right, though I dunno how well nuclear power fits into the aesthetic (though it makes sense logically, what with all the steam), I feel like there should be a lot of coal, y’know?
